Random tabs opening

Whenever I click on a link or shortcut (i.e. Images from the main Google Page) it opens it in the tab I am viewing but it also opens a new tab. Then, if I click on another link from there, like Google Plus, it switches my current tab to Google Plus, switches the extra new tab I didn't want to Google Plus and opens a NEW tab to Google Plus. It then repeats for the rest of my browsing session. In the course of getting to this page, I have racked up 4 extra tabs on the Ask a Question | Mozilla Support page that I didn't want, in addition to my current tab. I was having previous issues with tabs closing when I tried to open or add a new one before but when I restarted and troubleshooting in Safemode it fixed those problems but created this one.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?
