Recently my C/Windows drive (Solid state) failed, I have the data (it was installed on the D drive of my computer) for Thunderbird however my profile as far as I can tell was stored on my now gone former C drive, I need to recover those emails as I had several personal messages from a departed friend that I had saved as well as a number of emailed receipts for travel etc for the business I am building that I need to use as write offs on my taxes. How do I recover and/or more specifically re-integrate the previous install into my current one?

I've just moved to Fedora 39. First tried installing the official fedora Thunderbird through discover and Thunderbird found my profile, created menu links to calendar, chat, address book, tasks, but they go no where. Uninstalled, tried the flatpak. Initially my .thunderbird file was not found and I had to manually relocate it into the new flatpak Thunderbird folder. Thunderbird then found my profile but calendar, chat, address book, tasks are STILL missing even though their menu links exist.

I've searched for solutions and in every one of them I have some important missing part i.e. lightning listed in addons(to remove and then re-add, its not listed there so I can't), find the "extensions.installedDistroAddon.{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}" in my advanced settings - remove (no remove setting, only true or false, a sub menu where I can set its type, and a trash).

Any advice?

Problem: Thunderbird hangs up on Macbook and iMac. It opens to the normal view, but if I try to do anything, I get the beachball of death. I used Mac migration assistant to install from Macbook to iMac. Before the installation, the Macbook Thunderbird worked fine, but after the installation, neither worked. My PC installation works fine, as does Apple Mail on my iOS devices, so it is not a provider problem.

Solutions tried: restarting in troubleshoot mode, restarting iMac, turning off access to Apple Contacts, turning off antivirus (Norton), creating new profile and copying existing mail data into the profile folder, and renaming various files in the profile folder.

Results: None of the solutions I tried provided access to my email. I can open the new profile, but that requires that I reenter all my email account information and copy the emails for each account into the new profile (I use POP). The problem may be with the prefs.js file, since if I rename it, Thunderbird doesn't hang, but would require me to reenter all my account info as if it were a new profile, and all preferences would be lost.

Question: What is the best solution for this problem? Is there anything that would work better than reentering the account info -- e.g., can I make any changes to prefs.js using a text editor or some other utility?

Help,

I've delayed upgrading from Catalina to Sonoma just in case I lose over 10 years and 1000's of TB mails in nearly a hundred folders - vital to my work.

However, I can no longer upgrade my Photoshop and Lightroom. Dare I bite the bullet or will it just screw me up and lose my mails?

I'm not comfortable going "under the hood" into the directory etc. so dread the replies I might get. So please keep it simple. Or should I just take it in to my local (independent) Apple geek?

My in box will only download multiple copies of about 5 different emails from October 26 2023. These messages have been deleted lots of times but the inbox will repeatedly repost them as new and not download any new email later than October 26. It is like the movie groundhog day.It reluctantly downloads new email and the gives me up to 20 copies of the same 5 emails, never anything new. Any ideas? I can send emails.Trying the get messages button gives me the wait icon it is processing the new messages. Hours later it is Ground hog day again.The trash has been emptied on each try. I have been able to download new messages with out problems using the Shaw website. I hop this helps, any ideas? Andy

My computer got a new hard drive and I am trying to restore Thunderbird backed up files. The backed up files are now back on my PC. I looked at the support guide and can find the files on my new hard drive using the Profile folder in the troubleshooting information but I don't know how to get Thunderbird to use them. Thunderbird layout - how do i enlarge the classic view current message pane window? it's too short/compressed, and i can only drag it up a little, then it stops. In the prior TB versions, I only saw the last 3 or 4 messages in the upper message list portion of the classic view layout. Now I'm seeing almost 10 messages in my messages list. Meanwhile, the actual current message viewing pane is now horizontally compressed so that the ratio of message list to message view is closer to 40% message list, 60% actual message text plus the header info. I have tried click and drag the upper border of the current message being viewed, towards the top of the screen, but it stops, and still shows me 10 most recent messages in my list, which is really useless. I only need to see the last 3 or 4. The rest of the viewing pane should be more of the text area of the current message being viewed. Is there a "config editor" tweak to reduce the messages list to 3 or 4 messages, and increase the actual current message viewing area? Or some other fix for this?
