I have an outlook email on my Windows PC, via Thunderbird. For a long time each email I send has been joined by and unknown and unwanted additional address ' sophieprimaryworld@gmail.com ' with an always full inbox. This address appeared in my contacts list (unkown to me) and was deleted, but still attaches, seemingly both in inward and outward directions. The result often is a letter - 'tried to contact you without success' even though I get the incoming item. More recently by outlook account is password barred on my PC but now my android mobile also generates 'undeliverable messages. I would be obliged for help to remove tha anonymous Sophie from my system. Thanks to anyone in anticipation

Whenever I get new a new email I get a sound notification and a few seconds later it's followed by a second sound notification for the same email. The taskbar displays a notification for 2 new emails as well, when there is only one. Any ideas about this?

Greetings from Germany, Robert Belt here, I recently crashed my old Windows 10 hard drive and of course had to reboot a new windows, Inadvertently losing my data.

I use Mozilla however I see that the old format that I have been using over time is now different or changed.

                                   Is there a setting to change format(s)?

I would really like to return to the old format previous to 31 March 2024.

I need some advice on my Thunderbird email system. The problem(s) that I’m having are what’s frequently discussed with regard to Tbird “gulping” system drive storage, without frequent release.

I have been reading most of the narratives from this complaint, but the problem I’m having seems a lot different. So, I came here to explain my observation(s), in hopes I could correct this issue.

1. I am a long term Thunderbird POP3 user, since before the failures began related to signon security changes, before the Tbird corrections were employed(figuratively rewritten). I left Tbird during that time, and now I’m back. 2. So, like many others, my problem(s) arise from Tbird’s apparent failure to relinquish storage areas, when unused. 3. Right now, My W10 system drive(SSD) is setting at sitting at 122G. 4. It should be <100G, and it’s been as high as 13xG. 5. But, through some magic, something seems to happen during a inactive period, that will magically trip this storage to a more reasonable value. I have seen this 122G drop to 102G, but not in a very long time. 6. Beyond the fact that I’m stumped, I chose to write this narrative because my operations/experiences are significantly different from others I’ve read. 7. First, this is the only problem that I’m having with Tbird. Everything that I perform operates flawlessly. 8. And, probably even more noteworthy, is that I never maintain ANY email data inside Tbird. Barring absence, as soon as I determine email arrival, or any email changes, I simply move that email to a system repository for archival. As soon as this archival is complete, the email is deleted from it’s point of arrival. So, IOW, every time I close this system, Tbird will be completely empty of current mail. 9. Additionally, I initially configured ALL email storage repository to reside on another system removable drive. 10. Prior to this note, I issued the compact request. I did see a 3.0MB, but I’ve never seen anything above 0 MB before. 11. Additional attempts as solving this storage release problem, has warranted my purchase of a software product that will allow me to “look” into the internal storage of Tbird and several competitors, to send this hidden data to other repositories. It’s a long story, but I needed the product to migrate email data, where only Print PDF was avail- able. 12. But, it’s been very helpful in identifying Tbird internal email data that remains, despite the fact that I’d cleaned Tbird of everthing prior to my last review. 13. And, another issue is that all the email data that external email tool identifies, is deeply hidden from my standard Tbird client. The email data may be several/many days old, even though the related viewable email data had been archived/deleted several days earlier. 14. I mentioned that I have my email data re-positioned(#8) to external system repository drive for archival. This specification is issued in the “Local Directory” definition defined within each email target definition. From my long past experie- nces with Tbird, I learned that I could enter each of these “Local Directory” alternate repositories, and just simply erase them of ALL email data. 15. And, the next time Tbird was initialized, those “Local Directory” repositories would be rebuilt, clean. This will remove all email characteristics formerly present. And, the remote repositories(#11) will be built clean, and no latent email data will remain. However, this is probably unavailable for the 99.99% of users that maintain email on/in the Tbird system. 16. Tbird does, at some time, reorganize these repositories to regain wasted drive space. I don’t know/understand just what triggers this reorganization, and it never seems to “sync” the complete unused storage available. Right now, my system drive(SSD) was up to 122GB. Some time during my research, I noticed a drop to 111GB. But, if all empty data was reorganized, it would be <100GB. Of course, when I describe these system drive totals, I’m referencing the high limit of storage, including ALL installed software. (#5). 17. Gotta say I'm rather disappointed with the Mozilla support community forum here. It seems very poorly set up, unless I'm missing something. Perhaps I'm just missing the forum formatting page here.

The post form starts with asking "Which topic best describes your question" - well none of the ones offered. e.g. this question is about support, and that doesn't fit a category.

For technically literate users, often questions and posts will have code snippets etc in them, but there doesn't seem to be formatting support beyond bold, italic, links and bulleted lists? Is that right? No markdown for code?

   Code with four spaces leading - does that work?

   Does this work at all? 

Not seeing a preview your question button either, so one posts blindly without knowing if it's legible or not.

When I've tried to paste some detailed email header info in a question it was terribly displayed which can't help getting community analysis and input.

These aren't new features for community forums. One would think them standard.

Is there a posting guide for this support forum that provides formatting info that I might be missing? Is there another support discussion page somewhere else - perhaps stackExchange is more active?

Yesterday Thunderbird worked just fine. This morning I tried to respond to several emails and got this error message: Sending of the message failed '"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: [VO=1] Message blocked due to spam content in the message. Please check the message and try again."

There was no spam in the person's email... just text.

Next I tried to send a freshly created email with just a YouTube video... then the last half of the error message said: An error occurred while sending: RBL restriction: Blacklisted by Internal Reputation Service - 195.181.168.179

What is going on??? The SMTP settings are correct: Port 587 STARTTLS Help!!

I've long blocked remote images in my Thunderbird messages, and I have pretty good spam filtering at both server and app level, but when spam gets through it's invariably of the "image only" type. That is, an image with the product/scam/junk text and stuff all within the graphic.

Even though I have the Reading & Display setting of "View attachments inline" NOT checked, and the Files & Attachment settings for content type of JPEG Image and PNG Image (and everything else) all set to "Always Ask" –  STILL the images are shown to me when I select the spam message for deletion.

I can't be the only one getting image-based spam, so I'm a bit surprised that I can't find a solution to simply not display image attachments. I do still want to see the original HTML (many emails are a mess in plaintext only), but is there no means to keep the formatting but simply not load & show images?

Again - this is not about REMOTE images, rather image attachments.

Thx if anyone has some input

We have a reliable system with V91 (32bit) that was on Win 7 and now on Win 10 (64 bit). Mail POP3 is fed through Mailwasher 7.12.188. The system is reliable and I am reluctant to update T/Bird in case everything goes pear shape. We are elderly and rely on using it for food supplies and communications etc. The program shows an update of 102 available and now a pop up message for 103. Am I likely to experience compatibility problems with a T/B update with the existing Mailwasher, lose my address book or previous/current emails and will I still be able to operate on POP3 where everything is stored on my computer? I refer to my email address malcolm@malcolmgmiller.biz Despite many requests for help and numerous attempts by your staff and myself I am still unable to read or send emails using my email address stated above.

It was not my idea to transfer away from Heart Internet to Thunderbird but done as instructed by CloudTech24.

I admit to limited knowledge on how the systems work and become confused on whether I should be discussing the issue with CloudTech24, Thunderbird or GoDaddy. I have tried but failed to receive and send emails from my laptop, iPad and cellphone.

In desperation I have contacted Heart Internet who advise me that I can transfer back to them but that I will need you to unblock my domain

Hi,

I want to delete the amount of emails the Thunderbird stores on my local computer.

I do not want the email on the server deleted.

I went to settings, local folders, disk space and chose the option for Delete messages more than 30 days old.

I made the change and ran compact.

It's not deleting the emails at all.

Why not ?

Again, I do not want to delete the emails anywhere else (on the server), so making the change under the folder or my account is not it.

Anyone able to point me to where the problem is and why the emails are not being deleted from my local disk ?

I successfully migrated Tb from W10 to W11, but I cannot get new msgs since. I think Windows 11 is blocking me, because I get a momentary window that 'I cannot use my personal login" when Tb is trying to use my settings that worked on the W 10 TB to get my mail. W11 is driving me crazy!

Any insights and help will be greatly appreciated.
