I tried to use Thunderbird today,.. to find the interface was broken, menus were blank, so no ability to look at anything., and error message inferring there was a menu config issue was all that was shown. I duly removed Thunderbird as a snap install, which took a long time as it seemed to be making a backup to somewhere. I then reinstalled Thunderbird 128.11.0esr (64-bit) on my ubuntu 24.04,.. having setup the isp email credentials,.. all seemed fine,.. I then proceeded to import what I assumed was my old local folders... And this is where things went wrong, as I seem to have lost all my archived 2025 emails,.. I say somewhere,.. as I don't seem to be able to find them, I have used the 'find' command to locate anything with 2025 in the file name,.. but without success. At the moment I have a multi-structured 'local folder' entry, but nothing with 2025 in? I anyone able to shed some light on what I may have done wrong Many tx

Thunderbird crashed on me last night: "thunderbird killed by SIGSEGV"

The attached image shows that I'm being prompted for an API key. I'm not sure what that is or how to generate one (I presume unique to me?).

I believe I need one in order to file a bug. I can't seem to circumvent it.

Can anyone guide me in the right direction please?

There is no longer a need to keep the portable Thunderbird alongside the desktop version. So I thought I should transfer all data from portable into the desktop version. I already have several email accounts in the desktop version and unsure if I can simply use the desktop's import tool to bring in all data from the portable version. Can anyone confirm?

This is in response to Wayne who asked for this info..... unfortunately he only left me with a "no reply" email address.

Wayne, I followed the instructions on how to save Thunderbird info to be reinstalled after the new installations Windows 11. I stored it on a memory 512gb card. I downloaded a new copy of Thunderbird and noticed that once it was installed and I opened it I have to enter my primary password and then this page opens up. I enter all the name, email address and password..... Just as a side note, I keep a record of all my passwords but could not find one for Thunderbird. I did have one for Firefox and it accepted that password. I clicked on continue and this is what comes up next.

I then click on done and it again starts looking for a password. After 4 or 5 minutes I get a yellow box with the following in it. I have tired to uninstall Thunderbird and then download and reinstall it. Go back to what I had save earlier and follow the instruction of not opening Thunderbird, bring up the app/roaming box and copy and pasting the backup I made a few days before. This file was labeled "Thunderbird_Backup_Profile". I copied and pasted following the instructions....nothing..... I tried opening the folder and copied and pasted that to the app/roaming folder.... nothing...The file in the backup folder was labeled "0boaz5ty default release". So I don't know where to go from here...... Ray

I am using MacOS 10.13, Thunderbird 115.15.16ESR: my Hotmail worked until 15 May 2025 and then it would not download new emails. Screenshots are available if you want me to post them. I got an error message: "authentication failure while connecting to server outlook.office365.com". I updated Thunderbird to the latest for my OS: 115.18.0ESR. Still no new emails. I deleted my email account on Thunderbird and tried to reinstate it. Now I get an error message when trying to set up the account: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." I tested my password by logging into my Microsoft account with it on my browser. I can also login to my email using Firefox, but I want my Thunderbird email client to work again.

The configuration I am using is: I use my normal hotmail password in the password field. I also set up a new App Password with Microsoft and tried that without success. With the 115.18 update there is a new field: Your login. I just put my hotmail email address in here. incoming: outlook.office365.com, port 993, SSL/TLS, Oauth2
outgoing: smtp.office365.com, port 587, STARTTLS, Oauth2 (I have also tried: smtp-mail.outlook.com)

I enabled 2-step authentication with Microsoft in my Microsoft account more than a year ago. Interestingly, I don't get a prompt on my iPhone Microsoft Authentication App when I select Done when trying to set up the hotmail account on Thunderbird.

Please help. I am desperate, and I have wasted a lot of time on this without success. Cheers

I got a new PC with Windows 11. I installed Thunderbird 136.0.1 , activated the private calendar, and entered events there. For events with a reminder that have a specific duration (e.g., Wednesday from 10 AM to 11 AM), I receive notifications. However, when I create a full-day event and want to be reminded, for example, 1 day before, I don't receive any notification. Additionally, events with a reminder are not shown in bold in the calendar overview (whether they have a specific duration or are all-day events). Can you please help me?

Thunderbird has become a pain now for a number of months- regardless of any updates. On first start up if I click on anything on Thunderbird before ALL email accounts have completely finished downloading, Thunderbird locks up and displays not responding on the top of the screen. I have to wait ten minutes and longer before I can start reading a email until every email on every email account has finished downloading. When a site says it is sending a verification email - before I can see that email when I start Thunderbird - the verification email needs to be resent because it has run out of time. This never happened a year ago - now it is daily! I don't know what Mozilla is doing to Thunderbird but it is now highly unreliable! If it was not the only free email client software I would have dumped it by now. Why is it doing this?

I have no idea why, but TB is wonking out lately with strange errors?

The folder '[Gmail]/Sent Mail on me@mydomain.com' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again.

I have a ton of space and have not changed anything on the PC?

Any ideas?

I recently updated Thunderbird to Nebula v139.0 and now my "Recent Destinations" list is not saving all my folders in its list after moving / copying emails to the destination folder I selected. It seems that the "Recent Destinations" list is only saving (or maybe just displaying) folders with names beginning with "A" - "N". If I move an email to a folder with its name beginning with "O" - "Z", the email will be moved to the appropriate / selected folder, but the folder (destination) name will NOT appear in the "Recent Destinations" list.
