I exported up my Thunderbird data to an external hard drive from my PC in Croatia which I have been using there for the past year.
I am in South Africa now for a few months and imported the data to my laptop with a new Thunderbird installation.
I have 5 email accounts on one domain, and 1 on another domain.
When I checked for new mail, I was asked for passwords for the 5 accounts on the one domain, and after entering this, the new emails came through fine.
However the one email account on the other domain did not ask for a password, and when I connect I get a message: "Connection to server xxx@xxx.com was reset" I can send emails with this account, but cannot receive any.
Interestingly, I have a previous installation on a desktop PC here in South Africa with the same email accounts. I tried that specific email account and it connects perfectly. The settings are exactly the same.
How do I solve this on my laptop?

I'm currently on Office Outlook 2021......something happened and the license became invalid....according to Msoft.....I will have to re-purchase.......bought if it at huge discount on ebay so should have expected this... I'm investigating moving to Tbird.....but I have some questions.... 1. The importation of PST file seems rather complicated....is there an easy way to do this...??? 2. In Outlook I use the email....calendar....and notes.....I have a lot of notes as this is how I keep track of what I do for my clients......If somehow I import my PST file into Tbird....does all the email...calendar and notes come with it or just emails...??? 3. I POP Gmail into Outlook....but Gmail requires an App Password......can Tbird handle this..??? 4. My current PST file is about 3gb in size....Can Tbird handle this large amount of data..???
Thanks in advance for any assistance the community can offer... Steve

Hello,
My Thunderbird is on 140.0ESR - just updated yesterday. This morning I am noticing that when I open an email to read, and then close it, my inbox automatically scrolls from the top of the box to the place where that just read email is located. It used to just close and I could open the next one - now it goes through this momentary, fast scroll and then stops at the most recently read. It doesn't seem to matter if there are unread messages in the mailbox - it does the same thing when all messages have been read.
Very strange behavior - and just started with 140.0ESR.
Any ideas appreciated. Thanks!
I have an e-mail account through Thunderbird and for the past week or so have not been able to open attachments (usually photographs). Any advice welcome.

Thunderbird 140.0 (64-bit)
I cannot reorder some folders within my Local Folders. It only happens with some folders - =not all of them. I can drag and drop the folder to the location I want but for some folders one of the following things happen.
1. The folder immediately return to its original location, that is, I can't move it at all or 2. I cannot drop it where I want but I can drop it in a nearby location and then shuffle the folders around it so it ends up where I want it. For example, if I want to put folder Y between folder X and Z, I can't drop it in that location but I can drop it before folder X (or after folder Z, or in any other nearby location) and then move other folders around so I end up with the correct X,Y,Z order.
In ALL cases, when I exit Thunderbird and then restart it, the folders re-appear in their previous locations - that is, as if I hadn't moved them at all.
This only happens with some folders - and not necessarily the same folders each time - sometimes folders which were in their correct location re-appear somewhere else, but this is a rare event and I've only observed it a couple of times. I have disabled 3rd party backup software in case this was reverse synchronising the files - it was putting the old versions back (a long shot!) but the problem persists.
I have done a clean re-install and are using the default locations provided during the installation.
I could try to create new folders, move the emails to those folders, delete the existing offending folders and then rename the new folders to the desired names and then try move them to the desired locations but this is just a hack and maybe it won't work.

Hi all,
for signing PDFs with my SMIME certificate, another 3rd party software (LibreOffice) uses the Thunderbird profile folder (nssdb stored which is located there). After some investigation by myself, it could be a problem within Thunderbird certificate management itself.
Situation: I've a current and some outdated SMIME certificates for my mail address. But all for one mail address.
Because the current SMIME certificate is not accessible for LibreOffice, I removed temporary all of my outdated SMIME certificates from Thunderbird by the builtin certificate management, i.e. the list of my personal certificates was set to one entry (=the current certificate) in Thunderbird. But even then, LibreOffice lists only an outdated certificate (which is not visible anymore in the Thunderbird builtin certificate management).
Therefore I've checked with certutil the nssdb entries in the Thunderbird profile folder. Surprisingly, there is an outdated SMIME to my mail address contained (no further, even not the current one). Even after removal of those outdated certificates via the builtin certificate management. The current certificate is never listed; always only an outdated one.
This looks like a difference between builtin certificate management and nssdb within the profile folder (or may for another storage location of the certificates)?
certutil -L -d ~/.thunderbird/myprofilefolder --email mymailaddress
Thanks in advance!

How can I stop Thunderbird from displaying its own advertising/donation page on my browser when I open Thunderbird? It opens this page on my default browser, no matter which is chosen: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/128.0/whatsnew/?locale=en-US&version=128.6.1&channel=esr&oldversion=102.8.0 If the browser is not open, it will open it.
This is the result of trying to keep Thunderbird from automatically upgrading. In newer versions, the option to choose not to upgrade has digressed from difficult to not available. It did such an upgrade, so I de-installed and reinstalled my original version, only to have this issue.
I was very satisfied with my old version AND see no need for new any of the "features" or look. And, especially, once such a setting is made, don't want Thunderbird, or any other application or app, changing it back. This is a violation of privacy at best.
Worse yet, Thunderbird is attempting to penalize the customer for making a choice on their own computer by infecting the machine with nuisanceware.

Hello, I apologise if this subject has already been discussed somewhere but I haven't been able to find anything that specifically answers my question.
I run Thunderbird on two desktop systems running Windows 7 Professional and a laptop running Windows 10 Home. The desktop systems are running Thunderbird 115.5.1 (32-bit) and the laptop 139.0.2 (64-bit).
I use a file synchronisation program to keep my data on all three systems in sync, which also acts as a backup. I also use it to back up my main desktop system to a portable hard drive.
I should like to know if it is possible to include Thunderbird data in the synchronisation process, specifically mail messages in various folders (e.g. Sent, Read - including subfolders, Deleted etc.), Address books and Calendar data. I have successfully transferred the message files and their .msf companions. The sync software detects and updates changed files and this seems to work smoothly but I haven't been able to do this with Calendar data or Address Books. As far as I can see this can only be done by exporting the data to iCalendar or csv files then importing to the other systems which is obviously not convenient for something that I am doing on a frequent, regular, basis.
A final problem I have encountered relates to message filters. I have not been able to find any way to copy these to the other systems. Copying msgFilterRules.dat doesn't work and I can't find any way to export the filter data.
I should be most grateful for any assistance you can offer.
Regards, M. J. Thompson.
