I use Thunderbird with a info@... account hosted by TransIP.

When I send an email, especially when I reply to a previous email and even more when this was my own email, the sent email is not always saved in the Sent folder: neither in the webmail of TransIP nor in Thunderbird. It seems random when emails are and are not saved in the Sent folder.

The replies are sent through; the recipient receives them.

What can I do?

I am running Thunderbird 140.7.1esr (64 bit) running on Ubuntu 22.04.

I need to filter some emails, and need to filter by the "reply to" email.

Reading elsewhere, I followed the instructions, and created a new custom tag to filter (and checked in the advanced part of the settings, and saw that under the mailnews.xxxx there was the "Reply-To" header set up.

I then set up a filter to use this new tag (sorry if my terminology is incorrect), and ran it on a mailbox, where I know there are emails with the Reply To email address is present, and not one of the emails was affected by the filter.

What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks for your help.

I accidentally created an iterative loop using a forwarding Filter and bcc the sender. This resulted in me recieving multiple copies of e-mails each with subject beginning Fwd: Fwd: So I tried to clean them up by QuickFiltering for Fwd: Fwd: and I got a lot of hits for Fwd: alone. Please spare me from search engines based upon the matronly idea that I couldn't possibly know what I want to search for. -Does Quick filter support phrase search?

Hi there, I have several email accounts I use Tbird to manage. One of those is a hotmail account. I have the settings setup correctly for IMAP synchronization. But, after the initial pull of messages, the connection to the server seems to fail? For example, I open tbird, it pulls in new messages, run filters, etc... If I come back and try to reply to a message, the outgoing server will timeout (if you test the outgoing server in settings, it connects. If you reply as soon as you open tbird, it will send a message from that outlook account). I believe this issue is more than just the outgoing server. For example, if I move an email to a different folder, it won't register the move until I reopen tbird? Similarly, sometimes if I try to open a message after tbird has been running for a while, the message will not open/fail to load.

These issues seem to be impacting only this outlook account. I'm really not sure where to go with troubleshooting and looking for guidance.

much thanks, Ryan

Unable to open the summary file for Sent on xxxx@gmail.com. Perhaps there was an error on disk, or the full path is too long. I have tried to connect my second gmail account. The first one went ok. With the 2nd on the Inbox and All Mail folders initially gave this error, but Repair fixed both, Sent and all other folders have this error and Repair no longer fixes the problem. Then I noticed that I was then unable to delete emails from 2 inboxes including Thundermail inbox.

The email from ALL of my other active accounts (7 or 8 of them) all download fine.

Only ONE account throws off the Unable to Write Email to the Mailbox!

I have rebooted, I have compacted folders, I have repaired the folder - same result. Only ONE of my numerous emails fails to download messages.

ALL of the email databases are in the same subdirectory that Thunderbird (obviously) has complete read/write access to.

What now???

Managing a yahoo email account via Thunderbird (158.0) and IMAP - moving large number messages

Not sure where/how to post this, so starting here (and happy to move/amend this posting as appropriate.) 15-Oct-2026

Background: I've got a yahoo ("free") email account for many years, and wish to move the current contents of my Inbox to a folder (on imap, not local). Recently yahoo appears to have moved to "cloud" arrangement internally (not sure, but it appears to be the case.) The problem I'm experiencing (below) I believe may be yahoo's back-end cloud processes getting out of sync with Thunderbird's view of the same activity. Therefore, I'm seeking help on how to accomplish this (=I don't think there is a bug in Thunderbird, rather this is a plea for how to manage yahoo's email service for my account.)

Symptom: Moving large number of emails between folders both hosted on yahoo, peers to my inbox on yahoo, using imap - the "export" imap service). Thunderbird says it completes the task, but many (not all) of the moved emails re-appear in yahoo's inbox after a short time, so this makes moving a large (more than a few hundred) emails a *very* laborious process.

What I'm trying to do: I wish to move my current inbox (has about 7.5K messages) to an IMAP-hosted folder (same account, etc.,yahoo email would see this folder as a peer to inbox). When I select all of the messages on inbox and tell Thunderbird to move these to the local folder, thunderbird appears to indicate the task was completed. If I move a very small number of emails at a time, that does complete successfully (=thunderbird says task completed, and the moved emails do not re-appear in yahoo inbox.)

Thanks for looking at this (long) posting and (particular to moderators) if I've posted this incorrectly or in wrong place, please assist!

Dave

I have multiple email accounts on Thunderbird (on MX Linux)... att.net, gmail.com and aol.com

While traveling without my computer, i had to reset my aol password on my iphone.

Now that I'm back at my desk, and being unable to find how to change the aol password on Thunderbird, I deleted the AOL imap account and have tried much of today to add a new AOL account.

In the past, I could create an 'app password' within AOL (browser) and use that password in Thunderbird... but that is no longer working.

Any guidance/suggestions?

I am running the latest Thunderbird version 140.17.0esr (64-bit) available in my MX Linux.

I have/had two different problems with the same results. In the first case I get the login window. I enter the password hit return and that window goes away and some times you can scroll to different opened emails before it says "Not Responding". The only action that works is to exit the app. Usually after a few days or weeks it will start working and does so for a few days or weeks. Lately the login window does not appear when the app opens and it displays the "Not Responding" message. It shows that it is "Loading Message". I have tried all of the options from the troubleshooting window and reinstalled Thunderbird with no change in response> Where do I go from here?

Hello! After a Windows 10 update (around September 5, 2026), Thunderbird stopped receiving Gmail messages. Laptop: Dell, Windows 10. Account: Gmail. The problem occurs both in Russia and abroad. My emails were organized into a folder structure created inside Thunderbird. The most important thing for me is to restore this internal folder structure with all its messages. What we tried: • We kept the old Thunderbird profile folder as a backup and created a new profile. • In the new profile we switched the account to POP3 so that emails are stored on the computer. • Thunderbird downloaded the emails, but only up to a certain date (around 2023). Newer messages did not download. • The old folder structure did not appear in the new profile. Thunderbird version: [version]. Authentication method: [OAuth2 / normal password]. Error message: [error text]. Could you please advise: 1. How to restore my old folder structure from the saved profile folder? 2. How to make Thunderbird download all emails, including the recent ones, and keep receiving new mail? Thank you!
