I have problems with my folder structure after renaming mail folders. I'm using TB115.15.0 on Ubuntu 22.04, my uni is using outlook as a mail service config'ed with OAuth2. In settings->server->advanced, I have ticked the "show only subscribed" and "server supports folders" options.

A week ago, I have renamed folders, e.g. 3-class-2023-24-this to 4-class-2023-24-last using TB. The structure/renaming shows up correctly when viewing with the outlook web client.

But the old folder 3-class with its content still shows up in grey/italics. In the 'subscibe' menu, I can unsubscribe and submit. But no change in the folder presentation, and when I re-open subscribe, I'm shown this old folder still with a tick as being subscribed to. Similarly for the renamed: It is show as subscribed to at top level, but none of its subfolders. Subscribing to them makes no change, i.e. no subfolders added in the folder structure, and a subsequent subscribe view shows no change in their subscription status, still opens without a tick.

I've seen a lot of posts about ghost folders, with the issue being server side. However asking MS to fix their outlook server protocols for TB seems futile. And our IT service does not officially support TB. This is an annual change-over, and I even tried the brute force delete/add the mail account, but TB has remembered the username ans still gives me the same defective structure in the subscribe window, but now only shows the Inbox. I see no means of making the other folders visible.

Any solutions? Thanks, Jens

Hi, I use Thunderbird as an email client from Office 365. Thunderbird requires OWL to work with 365 and it is installed and working.

I have an email account associated with my website. "Sales@" Thunderbird filters the message on arrival and sends it to "Paul@" When receiving into "Paul@" the body of the email is blank. (only certain emails. not all). This has only just begun in the past 2 weeks. Because the message is moved in Thunderbird, there isn't a copy of it in 365.

Please see Attached image of errors from Ctrl+Shift+J.

Thanks, Paul.

Hi,

since I installed Ubuntu 24.04 Thunderbird (V. 128.1.0 as snap app) changes the path of the local directory each time I restart Thunderbird. My original path to the local directory points to a mounted drive e.g. /media/username/disk... Thunderbird changes it to /run/usr/1000/doc/.... How can I avoid this? The same thing happens also to the path of the signature file.

Thank you for your help! Ubuntu

We've got around 2000 AD-joined windows 10 boxes, with TB as the mail client, for years. Users are connected as domain users (ie, non-admins). Now IIRC, first TB version installed was 60. TB was updated throughout the years automaticall without a hitch, up to and including version 115.x.

With the advent of 128 we had started receiving calls from users stating that a message pops-up asking for credentials. Taking a closer look we discovered that each and every installation needed admin credentials to be able to do the upgrade to 128.

Is this a bug or normal behaviour? It is definitely a problem, especially for small organizations that do not know how to install manually an MSI of the latest version.

I have Nebula 128.2.0esr (64-bit) for Windows 10.

On the same day of my last Thunderbird update, a mysterious folder appeared in the root of my C-drive with Chinese (?) characters.

The Folder name is: u馐㕈ʶ

(See the screenshots below.)

Inside the folder appears two items:

A Subfolder called: IDB and a file called: .metadata-v2

Inside the IDB Folder, I see these things:

Folder: 3647222921wleabcEoxlt-eengsairo.files and these files: 3647222921wleabcEoxlt-eengsairo.sqlite 3647222921wleabcEoxlt-eengsairo.sqlite-shm 3647222921wleabcEoxlt-eengsairo.sqlite-wal

Inside this folder: 3647222921wleabcEoxlt-eengsairo.files I see:

a folder called: journals and a file named 21 and 22

Inside the journals folder is empty.

Does anyone have ANY idea what this Chinese Character folder is?

Googling it, I see that it could have something to do with Firefox, but I don't use Firefox much and this folder appeared on the same day my Thunderbird updated.

Trendmicro Housecall, Windows Defender, HP Wolf Security -- NONE of them flagged these as suspicious, but I just don't like this mysterious folder on my C-Drive and wonder where it came from and what function it serves.

Thank you!

I moved several messages to a folder called "Teamskeet", but when I opened that folder it didn't display any messages.*** Through tiral-and-error I discovered that the "Toggle message threads" option would show me the messages in that folder.

The upoaded image display is annotated to explain my question better. Specifically, are the messages that are displayed ONLY the ones in that folder that are threaded? And what does it mean that 15 messages are selected. I didn't knowingly select any messages.

*** Initially, it didn't show any messages, but after I closed and re-opened TB it did show the messages in that folder. I'll be doing some troubleshooting to re-create that scenario.

I have used Thunderbird for quite a while so finally sent a donation. Withing a few months, my emails won't send. Sometimes they won't receive either. I went to Comcast and asked for help and they gave me a new password for one email address and it worked for a few days now NOTHING. I'm so frustrated! I don't believe it has anything to do with Thunderbird but since Comcast is no help, I'm desperate. I have 4 email addresses and each is important to have access to. Please help me. I have used Thunderbird as my preferred mail client for many years. Recent upgrade to Kubuntu 24.04 from 22.04.4 seems to have changed storage options. Thunderbird 128.1.0esr(64bit)

I store my mail on my local server so that I can access it from a number of different computers on the same network. If I set the Local Directory to that network folder it is changed to /run/user/1000/doc/5f5f8977/mail.xxxxxx.com and the mail is imported to my local disk in that folder.

However, when I restart the computer I have to set up the network folder again each time.

I have never had this problem before. How do I set the Local Directory permanently to the network server address? Thanks Bob

I recently installed Thunderbird on a new installation of Ubuntu 24.04 using the "Installing Thunderbird manually" instructions. Everything works fine except that Thunderbird doesn't want to use the Thunderbird icon in the dock. Thunderbird opens and runs fine when I click on the Thunderbird icon, but it then puts a new default icon on the dock that looks like a gear instead of just "using" the Thunderbird icon to indicate that the application is running. I've attached a screenshot. When I close Thunderbird, the gear icon disappears.

When importing my contacts from my android phone (Samsung with Android 14) as a .vcf file, Thunderbird import the file but only shows the contacts from 1 group ( I have organized my contacts in my phone by groups, Business, Family, Friends, etc), the rest are shown as dots icons with no data in it, in this case, all my Business make it to Thunderbird but the other groups are ignored. I have also added this .vcf file to My Contacts in Windows and they can be accessed in and individual or list format in the File Explorer. Thunderbird should be able to read this folder with no need for imports. Appreciate any comments in this matter.

Greetings. Long-time Thunderbird user on PC and before now trying to load onto 2024 Macbook pro. Configuration identical to that on PC and have checked with person running with same configuration on mac. When tried to initially configure Thunderbird reported could not find email settings though email and password were correct, so configured manually.

Now trying to send mail get "login to account "smtp.gmail.com" failed. No way to bypass and do not know how to fix. Outgoing sever is SMTP and is configured correctly using OAUTH2.

Tried running in troubleshoot mode but no difference. Also not receiving any email.

thanks much for any tips jp

I have a saved search for unread emails and for flagged emails.

I move incoming emails to sub folders and as I occasionally update the list of sub folders this means that I need to then update the properties of these saved searches to add the new folders into the folders to search list.

Recently I have noticed that when I try to edit the folders to search list it no longer shows the folder list - only the parent email address. (the existing number of chosen folders is still given - so the search still does work for the previous folder list its just that it cant be updated)

This issue occurs with all existing saved searches and also occurs if I try to create a new saved search

Any Ideas how this can be resolved ?

Multiple Selected EMails Showing Aggregate Summary in Preview Pane - Need True Preview Instead

When I use Shift-ArrowKeys (or Shift-MouseClicks) to select multiple messages, as soon as I select the second message in the group, the Preview Pane switches from message preview mode, to some kind of an "aggregate text-only few-lines-of-peek" mode (don't know how better to describe it).

In this mode, it shows a few text-only lines of each message in the selection, which is usually of no value whatsoever because most eMails are HTM and the text shown is meaningless. I can't see the whole eMail as I select them in a group (usually to delete the group).

(I've attached a screen shot to show what I mean)

I want Thunderbird to stop doing that, and just show me a true preview of each message as I select it for addition to the selection group, so that I can read it and be sure I want it in the group, just like it does when I select a single message instead of multiple ones.

Can I get Thunderbird to show me the correct and full preview somehow?

Thunderbird automatically updated to v128 earlier this week after I went to Help - About Thunderbird to check that it had updated to v115.14.

Everything seemed okay immediately after the update, but when I started Thunderbird the next day it was very unresponsive. Checking the Activity Manager showed that Thunderbird was indexing messages, but that this was happening very slowly. I let Thunderbird do its thing that day in the hope that things would settle down.

The next day when I started Thunderbird things were still bad. I tried Rebuilding the Global Database but when I restarted Thunderbird it was just as bad, if not worse.

I then turned off indexing in the Thunderbird settings and Thunderbird is now responsive and back to normal.

Is anyone else seeing anything like this? Any suggestions to fix the problem?

I am a long time Thunderbird user so my profile is very large with a lot of accounts, and has been through a lot of Thunderbird versions, so it is potentially more complicated than normal.

Thunderbird version is currently 128.1.0esr (32-bit).

Thanks
