Hi,

Is there any reason firefox would flag an mp4 file legitimately?

  • The file extension and file type are absolutely mp4.
  • There seem to be no mp4 related zero days.

Does Firefox perhaps just treat all downloads from suspicious domains as malware? Is there a zero day I missed? Is this based on some missing metadata on the file or something?

Thanks for any advice you can give here, I'm scared.

I have 2-Step verification on Gmail. When I go to log in I get this: Insert your security Key into the USB. I cancel out of it and get this: Your phone can’t locate your device. Move your phone closer to the device where you’re signing in, and then try again. I "Try another way" and I try to get a "one-time security code" and it forwards me to a website where the cycle begins again. If I try "Auto-recovery" it sends me to google. I can access Gmail on the same machine via Chrome, but would rather not. I can also get it on Firefox on my phone.

I did recently turn on two-step and it asked if I wanted a key, and I thought it might mean Google Authentication, I think it meant a USB key.

Any thoughts? I rather not give up Firefox.

I know it gets posted a lot but none have actual working answers. I have autoplay to be blocked on all sites, I will never want any site to autoplay anything, I'd rather not be ever to ever start the video than for autoplay to happen.

I've checked the about:config against other posts say are the answer but it it's never solved this.

Upgraded to firefox 96 and the problem persists - haven't checked much yet but instagram.com is certainly playing every post.

unable to turn off safe search when using Bing search. After clicking the more bars on the Bing search page and setting safe search to off, when checking if it is off, it has reverted to moderate. Firefox is vs 96.0.1. Setting is set to normal, not strict. Windows 10 preferences are set to safe search off. All caches have been cleared. I took off all extensions, ran malware bytes & cccleaner & anti-virus scan. I tried a refresh of Firefox. Nothing has helped.

Using Edge or Chrome browsers on the Bing search page, Safe search turns off as it should.

--There was a power failure, last night, which knocked off my computer. That may or may not be related. However, with both Edge and Chrome accessing Bing okay, it seems to definitely be a Firefox problem?

I'm having problems opening saved (archived) Facebook pages. The problem is the page opens without formatting or layout, just text and images.

I've had this problem before when I was using Firefox 68. The solution was to roll back a security patch by doing the following as proposed by jscher2000:

You can roll back the patch as follows if you want to see what difference it makes:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste uniq and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the privacy.file_unique_origin preference to switch the value from true to false

That had worked until recently. I checked "privacy.file_unique_origin" and its still has a value of 'false' but the webpages are not opening properly, even ones I saved over the last few years.

What can I do?

I would like to permanently turn off enhanced tracking protection for https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/ so that I can track my stats. I can turn this off for a session via the shield icon but I am unable to find a way to save this setting. Manage Exceptions in Enhanced Tracking Protection in Settings does not allow me to add any site as an exception.

The rumble video interview of Jonathan Cahn by Greg Hunter is NOT visible in my linux version 91.12.0esr(64-bit) of Mozilla Firefox, straight from an openSuse software repository and directly installable under yast, which is their administrator program over the linux software including the software manager

The web page in question is https://usawatchdog.com/only-way-to-save-america-is-turn-back-to-god-jonathan-cahn/ but the java script code is grayed out on this page

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src="https://rumble.com/embedJS/ugdmvn"+(arguments[1].video?'.'+arguments[1].video:)+"/?url="+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+"&args="+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, "script", "Rumble");

I have used other browsers, such as Opera, Brave, Google Chrome and the rumble video is clearly visible and playable.

What do I have to change in Firefox so that this video becomes visible on the page?

In order to add photos to Shutterfly from google photos on Firefox, which is what Shutterfly likes, I have to enable 3rd party cookies.

I have been trying and googling and searching support for some time now. The google instructions do not come close to matching what is on the commuter. The "support" instructions are in technical computer language which I don't get.

So, please help me, but pretend you are explaining to your grandma (I may not be yours, but I am a grandma to 4 grandkids) and she's never used a computer before (I have, but I'm sick of wading through technical answers that don't match the computer and don't work).

Thanks - I hope someone helps me.

I was surprised today to visit a site and notice the "permissions" icon appear at the left of the address bar, showing me that cross-site cookies were allowed for this site. I have Enhanced Tracking Protection set to "Strict", so obviously this was a worrying thing to happen.

Looking into it a bit further, it seems Firefox provides a backdoor for cross-site cookies: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/third-party-trackers?as=u&utm_source=inproduct#w_managing-cross-site-cookies

  • "While cross-site cookies from trackers are blocked in Firefox by default, a site may signal to the browser that it needs to use them for important functionality. In this case, Firefox will allow a third-party website to use cross-site cookies the first five times (or up to 1% of the number of unique sites you visit in a session, whichever is larger) without prompting you. After that, Firefox will prompt you to block these cookies. Without your consent, Firefox blocks these cookies from that point because a site requesting access that many times may be a tracker."

This is most definitely not what I want!

I want every cross-site cookie to be blocked by default, unless and until I explicitly approve it. Is there an about:config preference I can set to achieve this?

I'm trying to make it so I can require a password to open firefox settings menu. I'm not talking about primary/master password settings for sites, I mean clicking settings from the upper right three bar requires a password.

I'm setting up a laptop for my daughter, and I don't want her to be able to fiddle with them, and all google will show is the master PW thing that has nothing to do with what I'm trying to do

Thanks in advance

Hi everyone,

I am running Firefox 91.5 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.5 and just noticed that all my addons have been disabled and can't re-enable them.

Some of them are quite common modules such as Disconnect or Privacy Badger, so wondering what this may be.

There is a similar post on this forum dating back to 2019 and it mentioned a fix on Firefox was to be developped.

Anyone experiencing the same issue at the moment.?

Please see attached screenshot.

Kind regards,

Alex

Idk why but sometimes firefox just doesn't prompt to generate secure password, I even have to download some extensions to generate secure password (Secure Password Generator) meaning more secure issues.

My guess is that you guys probably hardcoded something like {if "type: password" then prompt}, but it's still partly fault at developers too for bringing these huge chunks of javascript.

In screenshot there's element examaple in which i input password but no prompt whatsoever.

I've saved and can use the log-in details for a particular site, but they doesn't show up in the password list, so I cannot edit/delete them. Whilst it may not be relevant and may confuse the issue more, the reason I want to delete log-in + password is because I have to create a new account every 2-3 months, which I then save. So when loading the home page, the current and all previously saved log-ins get listed. I've tried to manually delete one when on the home page, but unlike keystroke searches which do get deleted, this one remains in the list. I suppose I could clear everything and save all the log-in details for each site again, but why are the log-ins for one particular site not showing up ?

Thanks

When I check the connection settings on a website (lock icon left to the address bar) and go to more information I can see how many times I have visited this website. I already deleted my entire history and all the data but I still can see how many times I have visited different websites in the past. Where is this stored and how to delete this information?

The problem is it will show suggestions in the address bar. There is a setting to to remove such suggestions but I only want to remove some results. Why doesn't this part of the "history" gets deleted?

Hi, I planned to block my users from installing extensions/add-ons. I found an article that might be the answer (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1308646). I tried to create a simple policy (below), but somehow it does not work (I can still install any add-on/extension). What is wrong with my script? I'm using Firefox ESR 78.11.0 (64-bit) by the way.

My "policies.json" looks like this:

{

"policies": {
  "ExtensionSettings": {
    "*": {
      "blocked_install_message": "Blocked!",
      "install_sources": ["https://addons.mozilla.org/"],
      "installation_mode": "blocked"
    }
  }
}
