On Macbook, Sequoia 15.9, Firefox version 141.0.2

Whenever I close out of the browser, as in quit everything, and then open it back up again, the background on the new tab always resets to default (gray), no matter the background it had prior to closing it. I'm aware it's just a cosmetic issue, but it's rather annoying.

It also sometimes does not allow me to change the background from the new tab page; the Customize > Wallpapers button when pressed will pull up the side tab all grayed out, with no options of wallpapers to chose from.

I just updated Firefox to version 141.0.2 and was presented with a new tab that said, "Make your New Tab feel like home". The video on that tab showed a pen icon on the bottom-right of the browser window. I do not have that pen icon nd I can't find any setting to enable it.

How do I enable that pen icon so that I can Make myNew Tab feel like home?

Thanks.
