I have a prob described here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/920581

The thread is closed so I can't add my question.

I had this probe before too and I uninstalled and reinstalled MF. The prob solved. Returning bookmarks was easy but not the add-ons, it was slow. I have this prob now again and I don't want to pas through this again. The prob is that CCleaner says MF is running but I don't see any MF process in Task Manager. Also even if I force CCleaner to close MF it fails. I'm with win8. I have the same add-ons and settings at work on win 7 (including MF to open .gif format) but never had this prob there. I don't know if this is coincidence but the prob appeared for a second time at home after I opened few .gif images.

Firefox add-ons should not be running in the background whilst Firefox is not running. Some Firefox processes may run when you do not see the screen. Firefox will take a certain amount of time to start and shutdown.

If Firefox is not shutting down properly it may not be able to re-start again and will give you an error message, but you should be able to find the process and kill it with Task Manager

Ccleaner has; certainly at least in the past; been associated with Firefox problems. Is it not possible to prevent Ccleaner checking Firefox.

Hi vessto,
Sorry you are having problems with Firefox.

Do not worry about the other question being closed. There is no need to post in someone else's question they probably have a different problem and setup anyway.

You should not be trying to use CCleaner to control close or clean up Firefox. Firefox has its own options for clearing History, cache and keeping its database updated and backed up.

If you have discrepancies between what Task Manager and CCleaner reports that is not a Firefox issue.

Can you explain again what the problem is at the moment if you use Firefox without using CCleaner on it. (That may require changing your CCleaner settings before checking and replying)

Thanks for the reply!!

The additional prob I got is that today MF tried to update unsuccessfully few times saying other version of it probably is running on my PC (which is not true). I had manually to upgrade to 22 trough a new installation. I connected this new prob with CCleaner issue and that is why I decided to post here. If CCleaner detects MF running and MF itself saying it can't update/upgrade due to other version running that may be a same prob that cause these two.

Also I wondered if some of the add-ns is set to run in background (when MF is closed) it may also be a reason?

Indeed I got the first problem at work and will use the article to fix it there, thank you!

As I think for second time maybe update failed because I was with 21 and probably it was for 22 version. This prob might be a coincidence with CCleaner prob.

As I see probably the reason is in CCleaner and not in MF as everything other works properly. I will disable any MF checking in CCleaner or will update CCleaner to see if this was just this its version issue.

Thank you again for the help!!
