Firefox willnot open web sites in new tabs

I want Firefox to open web sites in a new tab, it was doing this just fine for the last couple years, ånd now every website I open stays in the same tab. Also Firefox used to show the "Globe" icon next to the site on the dock. The Safari icon is displayed for the sites I have in the dock, but Firefox quit doing this after the last update.
