why is there two different icons in the taskbar for firefox on windows 10

I've used Firefox off and on for the past ten years but this started happening a few days back. When I open Firefox by pressing the Firefox icon on my taskbar, it opens a separate column of Firefox windows. Since when did Firefox do this? I do not see any of the other applications doing this.
