when i download something- say an invoice online it goes into the download but if i try to access the day after it wont let me or it has disappears

I have downloaded a lot of bank statements and invoices to print later but now when I go into the download history they arent there or they show a couple - it says open folder at the side of the ones that are there but when I click nothing happens

any suggestions?
