Hello,
We need help with Mozilla Thunderbird and OAuth2 access to Google Workspace accounts. This worked for years and recently started failing.
Setup — two SEPARATE Google Workspace organizations, in the same Thunderbird profile:
Workspace A — egkt.hu (separately administered) → does NOT block Thunderbird. Works fine on a clean machine where it is the only account. Workspace B — egyensulyintezet.hu (a different organization, different admin) → blocks Thunderbird with admin_policy_enforced.
Already tested / ruled out (NOT a client, machine or network issue): - A personal @gmail.com account (no Workspace policy) sends perfectly from the same Thunderbird. - egkt.hu works standalone on a clean macOS machine. - No antivirus/TLS interception (Defender scan clean, hosts file default, certificate valid), no proxy (system + Thunderbird), TCP to smtp.gmail.com:465 succeeds, fails on both office network and mobile hotspot, ports 465 and 587.
Our questions: For Workspace B (egyensulyintezet.hu): please confirm this is the API controls → App access control policy blocking third-party apps, and advise how to mark the Thunderbird OAuth client ID (above) as Trusted so users can use Thunderbird. Is it expected that a blocked account from one Workspace can interfere with the OAuth login of an account from a separate Workspace in the same Thunderbird profile? If so, how do we prevent that?
Thank you, Sebastian

Whenever I try to log in with gmail, I get stuck on this dead end:
please note that the port is random and is different every single time. also, google does not register that I have allowed Thunderbird access to my account, and it prompts me again every single time. I need help. How do I troubleshoot TBird asking for a password that disappears when I go into troubleshooting mode? In other words, I can enter anything in for the password, or dismiss/close the pop up box, and nothing is effected by it. I still get all me email for all accounts. The only thing at the top of the box is a user name (pmruzicka). At this point, I have deleted the accounts that used that user name, including all info for the outgoing servers (even tho this password request pops up at TBird start). I have Disabled ALL extensions one at a time and the pop up still happens. I have set TBird to default them,e - pop up still there. I have unchecked the hardware acceleration box - pop up still there. I have no clue what else I could do at this point. I do NOT have a Primary password set. Can someone please help me figure this out? Getting tired of having to click off that pw box every time I start TBird. Thanks. Also, this has been happening through the last few updates of TBird.
how long does it take to get a reply? i sent a request to get log in help, i have used Mozilla VPN for 10 years or so, now I cannot log in.

Recently I have been unable to use my Verizon.net email account on Thunderbird. An AOL pop-up requests I sign in with my jsturni@verizon.net userid, but returns "Oops, something went wrong." I still can access the account on the web, so I know my password is OK.
In addition, I can not manage to set up an additional js_consulting@verizon.net account. I tried auto setup as well as manual. I also can access this account on the web, so I know my password is OK.
(They both had been functioning until a few months ago)
Suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

Since updating to TB 153esr from the previous esr, I occasionally get a server authentication error with imap.gmail.com. Most often they happen when first starting up, but occasionally seem to happen at other times. They seem to be transient as gmail works fine otherwise.
Just wondering if this is a known bug?

Hi, this seems to be a strange issue. I have a hotmail.com and outlook.com account as well as gmail. The hotmail one was in general use/default. It recently stopped authenticating over my main PC Thunderbird installation. The PC is a new build and was listed as a "known device" in the MS account settings. I tried removing it and it seems to not matter. But it all worked fine for awhile up until Meadows. It has authenticated a handful of times since then, particularly if I'm logged into the MSN account via the web, but not always.
I've tried changing to POP instead of IMAP and that removes the authentication error pop up message but it still won't update the folders/doesn't work. There's just no error message, so I changed the server settings back to IMAP.
It's all the same settings as worked previously including on this very computer. The same settings work with the outlook.com email, including on Thunderbird on this PC. But that wasn't in daily use or as default. The one that's no longer authenticating however was.
I've tried switching to a new profile and it doesn't work. Tried reinstalling Thunderbird and deleting old profiles to fully recreate, doesn't help.
Outgoing on this same failed account does work, only incoming will not Authenticate or update.
I have a laptop with a Win 11 and Thunderbird setup similar to as on the PC, works fine on the laptop with the same settings. In creating the accounts the "test server settings" feature returns no errors as well.
I can't tell where the actual source of failure is beyond that as the error message isn't very detailed or informative and based on the overall behaviour where it works flawlessly on the laptop, worked with those very settings previously on the now failing install, still works very rarely as well, up to and including on this same PC via Outlook program or over the web, with all the same settings. So it seems specific to Thunderbird, post Meadows update, on this PC, with only that email.
To further clarify, I have a second outlook.com based email, which still works with Thunderbird on this PC where the hotmail based account fails authentication. I also have tested the failing email via the Outlook program on this PC, including over the web by logging in with Firefox, that all works, just like it works with the laptop.
What I haven't tried to do when reinstalling Thunderbird is scrape every hint of prior installs out of it, but I did delete all of the profiles folders and content. I also just tried creating a new profile and making it the default. None of that helped.
Thanks

I have two Tbird accounts pmcreativeservices@rcn.com has been mine for 20 years, and it's what I use for bills, banking, etc. The other account is PatriciaRosemoor@rcn.com and is only used to collect messages that come from my author website. Yesterday, I got a message from someone who tried but couldn't put a book up at Amazon and asked if there was something I could do about it. My trying to send her a message via the PatriciaRosemoor account is what started requests for my Primary Password. One a minute after I cancelled the last one. I tried the two passwords I knew I had, but neither worked. I got a request for a new password so I did that and it didn't work either. I kept going back to it all day yesterday uselessly. I found directions of what to do online, but it didn't match up with my Settings information. Please, if you can tell me how to fix this, I would be grateful. Or, if I can keep the thousands of emails I probably have, I could try deleting the account and recreating the account. The problem would be how to bring all my saved emails back. Thank you for your help. Patricia

When I launched Tbird this morning, I got a message, "account.google.com needs you to confirm access again to help syncing with your account. Username: [redacted]@gmail.com" When I click OK, it says Tbird wants access to be able to access and edit/download/delete my contacts and calendars, which access I'm not willing to grant. So when I click Cancel, it says Sign-in couldn't be completed, and now I'm unable to send email. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? In dire straits----- Dave
