when I play a sample MP3 file on Amazon WMP asks if I want to play the file or save it even though I have the box "always do this" checked and also selected in Tools/Options / Applications. How do I stop FF from showing this dialogue box every time I want to play an M3U or MP3 file?

You can only set an automatic action if the file is send with a valid MIME (content) type.
