How can I access emails that Thunderbird doesn't show anymore in full text after a server migration?

After an email server domain migration I cannot access any emails anymore that I have received or sent before then. However, Thunderbird still indexes them and when I search for a particular email, I can see the last 2-3 lines of it. But when I click on it, it shows nothing. Apparently these emails are still stored somewhere – but where? How can I access them and get Thunderbird to show them?

Many thanks in advance, Lilian

If this was an IMAP setup on the old server and you did not back them up or arrange to have them moved from the old server to the new, you don't.

Thanks, yes, it was an IMAP setup – What I don't understand, however, is that Thunderbird still shows parts of all those (supposedly lost) emails. If no information about those emails is stored anywhere, how can Thunderbird still have all this information (and why, then, doesn't it just show all the information)?

There is an index file that Thunderbird creates locally and it has the limited info you are seeing. That file is what you are seeing. You could try to plead your case with the old hosting company and see if they will help. For next time, create folders under the Local Folders account and move messages you want to keep there before turning off the old host.
