what does the padlocked envelope symbol mean.

Against my three email addresses there is an envelope symbol. Two of these have a padlock symbol against the envelope. What does this mean and does it need any action from me?

It means that they are accounts that use a secured connection - TLS or SSL. Much like https:// tells you that you are using a web browser on a secure site.
