Everything on my view screen has changed. why?
When I open my email I don't see the Thunderbird logo. The page has changed and there is no bottom part where the emails show up to be read. All the usual buttons are gone, too. I have to go to a separate place to reply, forward, or write a new msg or delete.

Why not make a smaller copy of your screenshot image?

You even put the answer to your question in the title. When the VIEW is not what you want, go to the VIEW menu.
View-Layout-Message Pane Shortcut is F8
You are missing the Mail Toolbar. Once again the VIEW menu. View-Toolbars-Mail Toolbar.
