Connections when Firefox is being used

While using Firefox 48. on my Mac Os running Yosemite When I opened Firefox without entering any URL address I performed a lsof-i command to show al network connections and got the following.

Why does Firefox have 3 connections when I have not entered any URL address?

I have performed the same test with my Add ons disabled and got the folowing when entering lsof -i.
