messages automatically deleted from inbox shortly after arrival

All messages to my inbox on my desktop computer get automatically deleted shortly after arrival. They do not even appear in the junk message box nor in deleted either! The activity manager just says '1 message deleted from inbox'. Any help would be appreciated.

I think I may have found the answer- I had unticked ' enable adaptive junk mail settings for this account' and that seems to have been automatically deleting anything coming in to my inbox.
