is firefox 16.0.2 compatible with windows 8?
I just ordered a sony vaio e series laptop and I want to know if I'll be able to use firefox on windows 8?
I'm told there may be stability issues?

Note that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done for full Windows 8 support, especially Metro support.
if I'm in desktop mode in windows 8, will I get most of the functionality I currently enjoy?
Yes, that should be working.
Note that you need 32 bit versions of all plugins because Firefox is a 332 bit application (64 bit versions won't work).
I am running Windows 8 on a brand new Samsung Series 5 Ultra and Firefox 16.0.2 is almost nonfunctional. Flash in particular never worked correctly, and every Windows update makes it worse.
Since I installed the latest Windows update, I cannot get into my webmail at all (live.com) as the page just does not load. I have to go through IE to get there. (everything loads great in IE)
Other pages load no images and no page styles, so that all of the text is crushed against the left side.
I turned off all my add-ons and tried again and nothing changed. Page Style is set to Basic Page Style.
What can I do?
Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. Firefox 16.0.2 (32 bit) freezes, if I start any flash application with the Shockwave Flash 11.5.502.110 plugin enabled.
There are no problems using Flash with IE 10 10.0.9200.16384CO nor with Chrome 23.0.1271.64 m.
I have done a couple of searches and not yet found a solution.

I've discovered thanks to some helpful folks over on the eightforums web forum that turning off hardware acelleration fixes most if not all of the compatibility issues with firefox as it relates to windows 8.
I'm not sure I'm willing to do that. My laptop's performance is honestly more valuable to me than Firefox's.
When I got home, my tower informed me that there was a new version of FF, so I upgraded the laptop to 17.0. A couple of sites look better, but live.com is still inaccessible and most of the distorted sites remain distorted.
My primary browser was FF. I guess till this is resolved, I'll just use IE and Chrome.
the performance increase with hardware acelleration from what I've seen is negligible and not worth writing home about.
IE doesn't work for me at all on Windows 8
but i want to continue to us FF
Hi Ricjames25
What kind of issues do you have with Firefox.
Maybe it is better to create your own thread to get better attention.
the same as everyone else. pages not loading, acting very slowly and freezing.
Does it help if you boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test?
Did you try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox?
i didn't try safe mode, but to do all that just to use the browser? i'll deal with chrome for now. and yeah i disabled HW Acceleration and still doesn't work properly but thanks for the advice.
As Ricjames25: I disabled HW acceleration and enabled Shockwave Flash. It's not working.
Personally I have given up. A "solution" that involves altering my computer's performance (to use a browser of all things, as though FF is the only browser out there and I must do everything in my power to make it work) is not a solution at all. FF is just very buggy with Windows 8 and I'm resigned to not using it until it's truly compatible.
use IE 10 for windows 8. Its smoother, until FF gets their bugs fixed
