Save Link As/New Folder/Save/ Causes Firefox to crash
This was posted 11 months ago and was solved by creating a new user profile. http://support.mozilla.org/nl/questions/890781
Right-click a link and choose 'save link as...' Browse to desired location and click 'new folder' Name the folder and open it click 'save' Firefox crashes -- restart and use the new folder or any existing folder and everything is fine after that.
Creating a new profile is really not an option for me. (too much work, too many settings)
A workaround for this problem is starting firefox with the "Run this program as an Administrator" option. So the problem has something to do with NTFS permissions.
Anyone?

Hi Nyaz,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having this particular issue when saving files to a "new"/"unused" folder.
Are you able to submit a crash report somehow? I wonder if the save "AVLibrary.dll" that appeared on the other user's crash report, in the Modules list, would appear on your crash report as well.
I looked through the post in the link you provided, and it appears that a complete uninstall and reinstall of Firefox fixed the issue, without the need to create new profiles or dig into the registry.
To completely uninstall Firefox, see this link: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox#On_Windows
I hope this helps solve this curious issue. :)

Hi rjbd,
Thanks for your reply.
Completely uninstalling did not solve the problem. I also tried cleaning the registry. No luck.
When firefox crashes it doesn't create a crash report. about:crashes is empty. %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted is empty also.
I really think this has something to do with NTFS permissions.
Hi Nyaz,
Thanks for writing back with the results, and I am sorry to hear that this issue still persists.
You mentioned that the problem does not occur when you run Firefox "as an administrator", so it does sound like something related to permissions. It is very strange that it only crashes on a newly created, unused folder. I did some digging around but was not able to find any relevant information.
I have a couple of questions - they might be just shooting in the dark, but I believe they might be relevant: 1. Are you logged in as Administrator? I am not sure this would make a difference, since it only crashes on new folders, but it might be helpful information for someone else reading about this. 2. Is the folder created on a network drive? I have had some issues happen when manipulating files over a network drive.
I hope that someone with more knowledge of the NTFS might be able to chime in and guide you in the right direction. I'm sorry that I was not able to help you, but I will keep an eye out and get back to you if I come across any possible solution.
Hi rjbd,
1. I am logged in as an administrator. 2. Folder creation is not the problem. If i create a folder "New Folder" (local drive, on my desktop or mapped network drive gave the same result) and don't rename it everything works well. Sounds like i don't have change permission right? Took ownership of my entire drive. Full Control permission on every file also.
I did create a new user on my system (regular user, no administrator rights) and the problem does not occur. So this is related to my user profile only. Total contradiction right? This makes you think that it is not a permissions problem.
I'm lost....
Thanks for keeping an eye out.
