I enabled the Downloadhelper in my firefox 15.0 beta last night, and I was able to download videos from youtube. Today, it's no longer working. I noticed that when I try to go to "Tools>Media>Download" it just takes 2 seconds to download 0 byte sized file and the balls/icon just keep on rotating. Not sure what this rotating icon mean. Does it mean it's running? or the file I'm trying to download is on queue? Hope someone can help me here. It gets frustrating.

New version 4.9.10 of VDH has been released that corrects recent problems. Update to the new version.

Version 4.9.10 release information

After some changes in YouTube on September 14th, Video DownloadHelper was not able to download any video from this site, except the WEBM version while using the YouTube HTML5 mode. This is fixed in this addon version.

After some changes in YouTube on August 6th, a number of users reported that all downloads were failing. This was caused by a a Youtube-generated cookie. The workaround consisting of clearing the cookies before downloading was not very convenient. This addon version takes care of that issue.

Earlier this year, some other changes at YouTube caused the FLV videos downloaded through the 'network' method to have a fixed 1.7MB size and being unplayable. This is now taken care of.

First, Firefox 15.0.1 is a full release version - not a beta.

Is that issue happening on YouTube specifically?

VDH has released a beta version that works (i.e., fixed the problem); I have tested and downloaded just a few minutes ago. Follow instructions on the following page.

Hi, I followed your link for the 4.9.10b2 (beta) version, but when I clicked "install" i got a message saying "Firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on your computer". I'm on a mac using Firefox 15.0.1. Any ideas. Thanks, Ronny

ronnyn:

First, in my post immediately above your question, I note that VDH 4.9.10 is no longer beta, but has been released as a new version 4.9.10. Update your extensions or go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/ and choose to install the new version.

Second, the message that you get "Firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on your computer" is noraml; it is a warning to draw user attention to the fact an extension is about to be installed.
