I have my cookies set not to delete until they expire, yet every 2 or 3 days they just disappear. I use NO other clearing programs that could accidentally clear cookies. I have also checked people with the same problem and the only solution seemed to be to create a new profile. So what happens when this happens again and again. Just create 100 new profiles?? Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem?

Try the next and tell us if it works.

Go to about:config and find Network.cookie.lifetimePolicy and change the value to 3.

then, same as above, find Network.cookie.lifetime.days and change the value to 120 (days) or above the default as you can see is 90.

thank you

Thanks for the great info!!! I will let you know because already today cookies are mysteriously disappearing again lol

Well day 1 after changing my settings and cookies are gone again. One thing I noticed was that under Privacy>Use custom settings for history The Accept third-party cookies > Keep until is blank and not set to 'they expire' which would be what I want.

Well at first I changed it back to 'they expire' but then went back and changed: Network.cookie.lifetimePolicy back to 3

So I'm going to leave it alone for a few days and see what happens.

Do you have an allow exception for cookies that you want to keep?

Do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences" as that will remove all specified cookies.

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

I don't have exceptions because I just want to keep cookies until THEY expire. This only started happening with 1 or 2 firefox updates ago.

I NEVER clear recent history, well until once ( just recently lol ) just to see if maybe clearing cookies and cache may help. It's just funny that it doesn't happen every day as if you cleared cookies upon FF shutdown, it's like every 2 or 3 or maybe 7 days.

Day 2 and all cookies are gone again. It's worse than it was. I used to be able to go a few days.

I don't think this setting is correct: network.cookie.lifetimePolicy = 3

This places a blank space ( no option selected ) under Accept third-party cookies. That cannot be a good thing.

Now I've tried to add one exception but my guess is, it allows all cookies for the site but I think when my cookies get cleared, so does the exception.

FYI Here's a cookie that if kept till expire should be there for a while:

Does anyone know what:

network.cookie.cookieBehavior does?

Check if your Internet "security" software is the problem.

Run also firefox in safe mode for one or two days, to see if an extension or a theme is the problem for that behavior, don't make changes in safe mode, select "Continue In Safe Mode".

Well cookes are still being deleted. Yesterday in fact. This is even with an exception set for a site. I know my security settings and I am sure nothing else is deleting the cookies.

The fact is, this started maybe about a year ago when there was a FF update. Actually, now that I'm thinking of it, I have updated my motherboard on this computer. I was having this problem before I changed the motherboard and still the same problem starting with a fresh operating system and fresh copy of FF.

So now, I was trying to mimic my netbook computer with the same FF settings. My netbook seems to work fine. It runs XP Home and I run XP Pro on this one.

I will have to try the safe mode thing or maybe break down and create a new profile.

I do appreciate all the help :)

Another update.

I disabled all 2 of my add-ons. ( Block site, colorful tabs ) I couldn't take starting in safe mode for a week or so because it messes up my tool bars which I'm so used to.

This morning I had cookies ............. two hours later when I opened up FF .. NO cookies again.

OH well .......... ongoing problem.

Do you have access via a proxy server that is deleting cookies automatically ?

thank you

also try to delete the cookies.sqlite file in profile folder and check it again.

thanks

I have no proxy server. I'm going to try and delete the cookies.sqlite file next.

FYI Cookies gone again today. This morning cookies there ......... 12:30PM EDT cookies gone. So it looks like I got about 4 days worth.

I'd still like to point out that my netbook FF works fine no problems, but I never installed any extra addons to it. This version has only 2 addons as above.

OK, well I broke down and created a new profile. I tired everything, even resetting FF.

All I copied over to my new profile was my bookmarks and passwords ( key3.db, signons.sqlite ).

So let's see how that goes :)
