Firefox 11.0 hangs, I have no idea why. I re-installed it without add-ons and disabled JavaScript to no avail. I un-installed Chrome, too, just in case there was some conflict. I am now running Opera 11.61 which is fine.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks the plugin-container process or Firefox without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Hi nosucherror,

Have you looked at our performance troubleshooting section? There is an article in there specifically on Firefox hanging. It might be exactly what you are looking for.

Hopefully this helps!

Thanks, but my problem doesn't seem to be covered by the examples listed. FF hangs on every new page regardless of Flash, time used, when downloading or quitting. It doesn't crash. It was working fine until a couple of days ago. I completely removed it, including Profiles, when the problem began and re-installed it. I am not using any add-ons.

If this started after the update, you may have to remove existing settings and re-trust Firefox in any security software. Please see AV/Firewalls for a general overview.

It seems that the Flash plug-in is the problem. I have tried disabling hardware acceleration. I have uninstalled it with Adobe's uninstaller and reinstalled the latest version. It is working fine in Opera. Any ideas?

You can temporarily Disable Flash in Tools (Alt + T) > Addons > Plugins to verify. Please note that Firefox hardware acceleration - Tools > Options > Advanced > General: Use hardware acceleration when available - is separate from Flash hardware acceleration: right-click on a Flash video > Settings. Managing Flash

Flash Problems

If the problem persists you can also try to check the settings for plugincontainer.exe in the security software.

Firefox 11.0 is randomly hanging for about 30 sec (several minute cycle) and sometimes Flash crash is noted, not always. Problem started with Flash 11.2.202.233 update (per Adobe, is correct version for Win 7, 64 bit, Firefox). Uninstalled and re-installed Flash, no joy. Added permission to Win 7 Firewall, not there before, (but Firefox working fine before), no joy. Started Firefox with add-ons disabled, no Joy. Deleted Flash hardware acceleration, no joy. Flash crash is one thing, but I thought Firefox using Flash as plug-in should be immune to a plug-in crash. Is their something in the Flash interface that can cause a momentary Firefox hang. Firefox works fine with Flash disabled. Adobe forums had no solutions either. This problem seems to be deep in the software and not solved by configuration means. Is their some way to trap the hang parameters so the experts can sort this out? Any thoughts from the group or developers? Thanks.

See missy7 post. I gave Firefox permission with Win 7 firewall. No joy. How do I give plug-in container permission. I am also running AVG 2012 Free, don't know if this has any influence. Thanx
