Sync does synchronization of far more types of data that Xmarks does. Plus Sync is built in to the upcoming Firefox 4.0 version, no need to install an extension.

I don't agree with this statement. It is for backup as much as synchronization.

Xmarks is not shutting down. The owner wanted to shutdown the project guess because of financial issues so, somebody bought it and luckily its still working :)
