All of my open pages disappeared

I had, literally. a year's worth of open pages and when I closed Firefox this morning, as I do from time to time it reopened with this message from Mozilla: "Your Firefox is up to date. Now get on the go." Unfortunately what it did bot have was an option to reopen all, or any, of my pages. Nor was "Restore Previous Session" a choice.
