Since past few days I have started getting these (see image) annoying ads on the browser. These weren't coming earlier. They come mainly on shopping websites like Amazon.in, Flipkart.com, PayTm.com, etc.

Installing AdBlock isn't helping.

Has anyone else been bothered by this and was able to fix the issue?

Hi, if the above doesn't help, please try working through Remove “Ads by PriceFountain” virus by Malware Tips.

Note that not all removal programs will detect all malware, so you may need to run several or all of them.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

I tried restarting in safe mode.

Interestingly, the ad labelled 1 in the screenshot disappeared, but ad labelled 2 was still present.

What now?

If one ad disappeared in Safe Mode, it might be that you have an extension or theme which is causing it, so try disabling them one by one until you find the culprit (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Extensions/Appearance.

For the other ad issue. Did you do as I suggested in my post above?

I can't believe I didn't see Price Fountain installed on my system, even though I install/uninstall software frequently. I mean I view the 'Uninstall a program' page of Control Panel almost daily.

Thank you for your help.
