"This Connection is Untrusted" show up on almost all my search links, I can't even get to my email!!! I'm not a tech of any sort! Check & did what I understood " cache & cookies" cleaned up & nothing wrong with date & time. Please just fix the problem, seems a lot of other folks are having the same problem.

Please check your system time and date. If problem persist, please inform us.

A common reason for this, other than a wrong date, time, or time zone, is some kind of software intercepting your connection. This could be your security software, or malware.

Does the untrusted connection error page show a code in parentheses (separated_by_underscore_characters)? Sometimes you need to expand a Technical Details section of the page to see the code.

Could you let us know what error code or codes you are getting?

Also, do you use Avast, BitDefender, ESET or Kaspersky security software?

This is what is written in "Technical Details"

ccs.infospace.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is only valid for ccs.dogpile.com

(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

I have ESET

Did you install a search plugin to use Dogpile for your searches? If not, this may be a malware infection (browser hijacker). Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning up bad add-ons, hijackers, and ad injectors. I know it seems long, but it's not that bad.

(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Be suspicious of everything you do not recognize/remember, as malware often uses important or innocent sounding names to discourage you from removing it. Take out as much trash as possible here.

(2) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • in the Windows "Run" dialog, type or paste
    firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions. Bear in mind that all extensions are optional, none come with Firefox, and you can learn more about them by checking their reviews on the Add-ons site.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

(3) You can supplement your ESET scans with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

Success?

Did everything including running "Microsoft Safety Scan" stuff deleted, scan run showing no malware etc. and I still have the problem.

Has your default search engine changed? You can check that here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Search

The first control on the page should allow you to select your preferred search engine. If it is Dogpile (or another InfoSpace service), change that to your preference.

If you are not using Dogpile or another InfoSpace service, could you describe the steps that lead to getting the error message? Which search site are you using that has these bad links?

The only search 'engine' I have used in the past 3 years is My Points, I search to earn points.

The problem seems to have started since your last 2 updates; Mozilla Maintenance Service installed 8/29/15 and Mozilla Foxfire 41.0 (x86 en-us) also installed 8/29/15.

I entered my search info then clicked on a web link, this produced the error message.

Are you searching on the following site or using one of Firefox's bars (search bar, address bar, etc.) or an add-on toolbar: https://www.mypoints.com/emp/u/mysearch.vm

Also, could you check your connection setting here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

Click the Network mini-tab, then the "Settings" button. The default of "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your Windows/IE LAN setting, or you could try "No proxy" to see whether that helps.

Okay, I see that address when I mouse over the results links on this search:

https://www.mypoints.com/emp/u/mysearch.vm?q=firefox

For example, the results for the main Firefox page is routed thusly:

https://ccs.infospace.com/ClickHandler.ashx?ld=20150901&app=1&c=mypoints2&s=mypoints2&rc=mypoints2&dc=&euip=24.104.40.161&pvaid=3720d4c456734d5389dd3e4afd63fbfb&dt=Desktop&fct.uid=637fe99fcd764423a2e5b3f4e1e8432b&en=oASlzMttq9mEKy6b2%2bgAMtOyjzW3PPv6TTVLqmlHIHRI%2bKNQu4sBQg%3d%3d&du=https%3a%2f%2fwww.mozilla.org%2fen-US%2ffirefox&ru=https%3a%2f%2fwww.mozilla.org%2fen-US%2ffirefox%2fnew%2f&ap=1&coi=771&cop=main-title&npp=1&p=0&pp=0&pct=https%3a%2f%2fwww.mypoints.com%2femp%2fu%2finfospaceCsrTrack.do%3fapiver%3dcsr%26sessid%3d1581439228%26simp%3d864692569456508086%26arr%3ds12&ep=1&mid=9&hash=D059145E763E41879083F286980AA051

But I'm not getting that cert error. A couple next steps:

(1) If this is the only site with a problem:

Could you check whether you ever saved an "exception" for ccs.infospace.com here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Certificates mini-tab, click the View Certificates button to open the Certificate Manager, then click the little Servers tab. Ignore the ones with * and check for anything related to infospace. If you find any, remove them.

(2) If this affects lots of secure sites:

Could you check the certificate on the MyPoints search page? Click the padlock icon in the address bar, then More Information, then View Certificate. I have attached what I see for comparison. Does your indicate a different issuer? Does it mention ESET? If so, then Firefox has lost trust in your ESET software as a filter and needs to be re-setup.* Last time I researched that, I found the manuals for several versions online: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1044431#answer-717682

* This is based on the assumption that it's a server-specific exception.
