I was in a private browsing session, and my laptop went into hibernation mode due to lack of battery. I'm having trouble charging the lap top, but when I do get power again, will I be returned to my private browsing session, or to the previous browsing session before the private one?

If that Firefox session is still running after restoring from hibernation then you are still in that Private Browsing mode session. If you need to (close and) restart Firefox then that session is lost.
