Firefox under Linux (X11), dead keys don't work any more.

Manu

Hi,

I'm using Firefox 155.0.1 64bits, in Linux Mint Debian Edition 7, x11, XFCE4. I have a Belgian keyboard. I have noticed that the dead keys aren't working any more when typing text / messages from within Firefox. I don't have this problem in other browsers or applications.

I used xev (x11 utility) to check if the dead keys were working and tested a different keyboard, all work. I tried to start Firefox in safe mode or by starting Firefox from a terminal with the following commands: - env GTK_IM_MODULE=xim firefox - env GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus firefox

But nothing worked. The dead keys aren't working. The issue must come from Firefox for it is not an hardware issue (tried different keyboards) nor software (dead keys work in other applications).

Any idea to fix this ?

Is this a recent regression?

Does it affect any and all inputs, like this actual site's forms — or is specific to perhaps a subset of sites (similar to e.g. bugzilla.mozilla.org/2004150 …)?

Hi jbr,

Yes I do think so, for I noticed only recently (I had one FF update during the past week and another one today); I'm Belgian and French speaking, I need those dead keys a lot, so would it have occurred longer ago, I would certainly have noticed earlier.

As for the issue, it occurs no matter the site, dead keys don't work in FF. The problem described in the bug report resembles my issue, but the symptom is a bit different. The accented letter supposed to be accented by the dead key composition, just does not appear at all.

Besides, I'm under X11, not Wayland.

Could you please file a bug right away in bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Core&component=Widget%3A%20Gtk to potentially help the engineers with logs or trying to pinpoint a mozregression if you can bisect between "good" vs. "bad" versions to see if that was due to a code change? Thanks!

Actually, Manu, could you check the conversation going on in bugzilla.mozilla.org/2061489 on the XIM impact, that seemed to work in ibus, if there's anything in common?
