Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
- Click the menu button
, then click Bookmarks.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Manage Bookmarks.
- At the top of the Library window, click on Import and Backup and select Restore.
- Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
- In the new window that appears, click OK.
Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.
Sorry to hear about this problem. Because history is also not available, there may be something larger going on with Firefox not being able to access the Places database, a file that stores both bookmarks and history together.
(1) If other data is missing, too, such as your new tab page shortcuts, add-ons, toolbar customizations
Check whether Firefox is even using your regular profile. After a normal restart of Windows, see the first section of the above-referenced article: Recover lost or missing Bookmarks.
(2) If Firefox is showing an extra toolbar with the error message mentioned in the following article:
Fix "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message
it could indicate that there is a file lock on the database file. Please try a normal restart of Windows first to release that. If not success, you could try the Verify Integrity function mentioned below before using the steps in that article:
Open Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page using any of these methods:
- "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.
If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:
> Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane + The favicons.sqlite database is sane
Does yours say your database files are sane, or something else? You can select and copy the report, and then paste it into a reply for review and comment.
