Why can't I copy and paste something from a web site the way I can with Internet Explorer? It is annoying to have to go to IE to be able to do that.

Where are you clicking on Copy? Is it a Firefox toolbar button, or a button in the webpage itself?

Could you try these standard Windows shortcuts to see whether they work any better:

  • Ctrl+c
  • right-click > Copy

I have always just right clicked and got the menu with Copy as one of the choices. Then I go to a new email or a Word Program and right click and paste. This does not work with Firefox.

Are you unable to copy from any page, even this page?

If all sites are affected:

In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash and other plugins still run)

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

If it's site-specific:

It could be a script on the site. Firefox allows websites to detect that you are copying text. Some sites use this feature to add a link back to the page, but potentially it might be used to prevent copying.

To turn off sites' ability to do this, you can change a hidden setting.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste clip and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled preference to switch its value from true to false.

Then reload the problem page and test again. Any change?

Hi dujaspasa, would you mind starting a new thread? It would be simpler to keep the Windows and Android questions in their different forums. We just split them in the past week, so I know it's a little confusing at this point.

Here's the link to the new question form for mobile versions:

https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/mobile/fix-problems

Scroll down past the solution suggestions if they aren't relevant to complete the form (I think it is spread over 3 pages). Thanks.

I found that it seems to work on some sites but not the one I wanted so I guess I will just have to use IE to copy from there. Thanks anyway.

If you decide you want to look into it further, could you give a link to the site? Then a volunteer could take a look and see what tricks they're using.

Hi kiki1026, that "book" appears to consist of images of the original book instead of the text of the book. But I am not logged in, so I may be seeing only a preview.

There are a variety of ways to block mouse selection other than scripts. To see whether it is specific to mouse selection, try this: right-click a blank area of the page and choose Select All (or use Ctrl+a on Windows), then copy and see whether that will paste successfully anywhere else.

actually it not all images its a medical coding book I purchased. I don't care about the pics just the text. But the above suggestion didn't work. I have googled and tried everything. uugghhh

Hi kiki1026, what I mean is, if I right-click the page of the book, the Firefox right-click context menu shows View Image.

I see you started a new question, so let's all continue over there: copy an paste from protected sites.
