Windows 11
I am running Thunderbird on a new Windows 11 laptop. When I download new messages and try and open them my laptop locks up. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks Dave

Are you running a beta version of Thunderbird?
i AM RUNNING THE LATEST VERSION. Do you think if I tried an older version it may or may not work? Thanks Rick for your reply. Dave
Verify in Tools, and then Settings, General, Scroll down to the end to see if "Use hardware acceleration when available" is checked, if so uncheck it and restart Thunderbird to see

You posted that you were using version 150.0b. I assume that that is a beta version and that it has bugs. Is that the version that you are using?
If it is, yes, I would recommend switching, but not to an earlier version, just a different release, e.g., 153esr.
I got your e-mail Michael. Thunderbird is still locking up. I can't even get to where you said settings, general, hardware acceleration. Some thing is still keeping me from using the program, I am only using Windows Defender. Not sure what to do now. Thanks Dave
i just down loaded the 153ESR VERSION AND IT STILL CRASHES. WHAT NEXT?? THANKS DAVE
Probably won't help but current supported release, just updated, on windows 11 is 153.0.1. I think 153.0esr was early support. If so than it might only be recommended for specific conditions.
Any particular point at which it crashes? Perhaps with authorization for specific email ISP? Opening view of all messages, or a specific message? Or other point such as calendar update.

Two separate troubleshooting steps:
Start Thunderbird in troubleshooting mode (under the "Help" menu) and see if the problem occurs.
Then start Windows in safe mode with networking and see if the problem occurs.
If the problem still occurs in both situations, please post your crash logs.
OKAY RICK I WILL TRY. RIGHT NOW I CAN'T EVEN GET TO THE GENERAL SETTINGS. THANKS FOR THE HELP. I HAVE JUST ABOUT GAVE UP. DAVE
Can you get to the help menu?
Or start with windows in safe mode with networking first?
