Can no longer change the text color; highlighting feature no longer works after updating to version 140.2.0esr (64-bit)

My Thunderbird software was recently automatically updated to version 140.2.0esr (64-bit). I'm using a MacOS Monterey version 12.7.6 (21H1320). I noticed that I can no longer change the color of the text (meaning I cannot change the color of the text for specific words in the message). Also, the highlighting ('mark") feature no longer works.

Please help! I really need these features to work!
