Can no longer connect to inbound.att.net server from Thunderbird

I get an error saying Thunderbird cannot connect to the server inbound.att.net. I can access that account from http://att.net website, but I cannot get the account to connect through Thunderbird. It has worked for years and started with intermittent errors in mid November. Now I cannot get in at all.
