TB doesn't ask for a password anymore, so I can't down/upload mail
I've tried restarting TB and machine, plus re-installing from a new download. When it opens or when I send mail, the password box no longer appears. I have no master password - I've set it and deleted it too.

Thunderbird displays the password prompt when the sever asks for one. If it does not connect to the server you will get no password prompt. Not being able to get through the firewall would prevent server contact and no password prompt. Glad you got it sorted out.

Caused by conflict between a firewall with a failed update, and the windows 10 defender firewall. Uninstalling the failed firewall software (comodo) resolved the issue. Could not see a way to stop comodo from invisibly operating (other than by uninstalling). Found comodo was in action using Spybot startup tools.
