Hello!

I'm a Japanese user who recently started using Firefox, and I have a question.

I've noticed that Firefox's built-in translation feature is somewhat less convenient than those of Edge and Chrome, especially when I want to translate pages into my native language (Japanese) regardless of the language Firefox detects.

For some reason, when Firefox identifies a page as Japanese, it doesn't offer the one-click translation option, even if the page contains a lot of English text.

To work around this, I have to click the ≡ menu on each page, change the source language from Japanese to English, and then change the target language from Japanese to English.

Does anyone have any ideas for making this translation process smoother?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Composition is forcibly committed and current key is dropped when typing quickly with Microsoft Pinyin (TSF)

Environment: - Firefox 157.0.1 (64-bit) - Windows 11 (build 26100) - IME: Microsoft Pinyin (TSF)

Steps to reproduce: 1. Open any page with a text input (e.g. chat.deepseek.com). 2. Type quickly in Chinese Pinyin, e.g. "zuihou". 3. At some point during composition, the current composition ("zu") is committed as raw pinyin (with the apostrophe separator preserved), and the next key ("i") starts a new composition.

Expected behavior: - The composition should continue normally, and all keys should be consumed by the IME. - No raw pinyin string should ever be committed.

Actual behavior: - Firefox delivers the key event to the web page with keyCode 73 ("i") instead of keyCode 229 (Process), so the IME never receives it. - The IME's internal composition state stays at "zu" while the browser display has already moved on. - When the next key arrives, the IME commits the stale "zu" as raw pinyin and starts a new composition. - This results in the composition being split into two parts, with the first part committed as raw pinyin containing the "'" separator.

Additional context: - The problem occurs only in Firefox. In Edge (Chromium) on the same machine, typing the same sequence for several minutes never reproduces it. - It does not occur with every key; only certain keystrokes are affected, and it seems to require fast typing. - The issue is not caused by keyboard hardware, third-party software (AutoHotkey, yasb, PixPin, Intel drivers, MuMu), or key injection. A low-level keyboard hook log shows no injected events (inj=0 for all 204 keystrokes).

Log excerpt (from a JS composition probe injected into the page): [ime] 04:20:54.740 keydown key=Process isComposing=false keyCode=229 repeat=false [ime] 04:20:54.740 COMPOSITIONSTART data="" [ime] 04:20:54.741 compositionupdate data="z" [ime] 04:20:54.831 keydown key=Process isComposing=true keyCode=229 repeat=false [ime] 04:20:54.833 compositionupdate data="zu" [ime] 04:20:54.928 keydown key=i isComposing=true keyCode=73 repeat=false <-- key 73, not 229 [ime] 04:20:55.324 keydown key=Process isComposing=true keyCode=229 repeat=false [ime] 04:20:55.326 COMPOSITIONEND data="zu" <-- stale composition committed [ime] 04:20:55.327 COMPOSITIONSTART data="" [ime] 04:20:55.327 compositionupdate data="h"

My Firefox is in English, but the new update page is never displayed in English,

https://www.firefox.com/pt-PT/whatsnew/general/?from_main_nav=true&version=155

Problem number 1: It should be based on the installed language.

Problem number 2: It says PT-PT but it's 100% PT-BR, What is "celular" and "privativo"?, sintax does not conform to european portuguese either.

The subject line of replies to email messages are preceded with Aw: instead of Re:. Aw: appears to be the German language version of Re:, but my language is set to English as best as I can determine. Forwarded email are preceded with Fw: as normal. My other email (Yahoo mail) does not have this problem. I do not see anything other than the Subject line Aw: that looks like it is in another language. If I use a different browser (I usually use Firefox,) the same problem occurs so I do not think it is a browser setting. It only happens in my mail.com account so I do not think it is a global Windows setting. This problem started several months ago -- I have been using mail.com for many years without this problem so it appears to be caused by a mail.com update. Thanks.

Which dictionary are we using? (Or are we allowing English spelling to be supplanted with American or other spelling?)

Whereas in MS Windows I can choose UK English or one of the many different forms of English in use elsewhere, I'm noting that in Mozilla/Firefox I get the typical warning under a spelling that does not equate with the spelling used in the current dictionary and yet these spellings are not UK English...

Even I choose UK English as my default dictionary the spelling of "colour", "neighbour", aluminium, still give this indicator.

Hello,

My Firefox interface is set to Ukrainian, and everything in the browser is displayed in Ukrainian. However, when Firefox shows a notification about an available update, the text of this notification is in russian.

I do not know russian and have never selected it anywhere in Firefox or in my operating system. I would also like to explain why this matters to me: seeing russian in my browser is genuinely unpleasant, because russia is waging a terrorist and aggressive war against Ukraine. For many Ukrainians, software defaulting to russian is not a minor localization glitch. It is something we actively want to avoid.

Why does this happen, and how can I make sure update notifications appear in Ukrainian?

System details: – Firefox version: 156.0.1 – Operating system: Windows 11 – Where I downloaded Firefox: mozilla.org

A screenshot of the notification is attached.

Thank you for your help!

I use Firefox in Japanese. Often, when I type Japanese text into an input field, a red wavy underline appears. I know this is the spell-check feature, but I don’t understand the specific criteria it uses to determine whether something is correct or not. Since it doesn’t actually correct the text for me, I’m thinking of turning it off, but before I do, I’d like to understand how this feature works.

For example, even a sentence that seems perfectly fine,

“Apples are delicious.” is flagged as incorrect by this feature. It’s a confusing feature—if I remove the period (.), the underline disappears.

Is this actually useful? It underlines every single sentence.

P.S. I believe the Japanese dictionary is downloaded into Firefox.

例えばなんの問題もないように見える

「りんごは美味しい。」 という文章もこの機能によると間違っていると表示されます。 「。」記号を抜くと下線は消えたりとよくわからない機能です。

これは果たして有用ですか?

追記、日本語辞書はfirefoxにダウンロードされていると思います。

Same question, expanded. We're in the age of international browsing- Why when you choose a default language for the browser, doesn't it already ask if you want the page you're looking at (if not in the default language) to be translated? You guys are years behind missing a feature like that. Even internet explorer had that function.

When the automatic translation pop-up appears, Firefox incorrectly detects Kurdish text and labels it as Persian. Other browsers, such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, accurately identify and label Kurdish as its own distinct language. This misclassification disrupts translation accuracy and usability for Kurdish speakers. Please update the language detection model in Firefox Translations to correctly recognize and label Kurdish.
