Flash doesn't work with Scientific Linux 6.2 Firefox 10.0.7 Adobe 11.2.202.238, does with Macromedia 11.0.1.152
Get it working with Macromedia flash okay and then some days later Firefox decides my Flash is not the latest and removes it. I get back to a working solution by removing Adobe flash and adding Macromedia flash under Scientific linux. Then some days later the problem repeats. How do I stop Firefox messing about with my applications (e.g. flash). Note my Scientific linix has be disabled from doing automatic updates.

I run a few versions of Firefox including Mozlla ESR 10.0.7 on Ubuntu Linux, and they all work happily with the latest (Linux) Flash version Flash Player 11.2.202.238
The updating of Flash is controlled from the Flash UI. The options may be changed from right clicking on a Flash Player. The settings are actually stored in a file mms.cfg which may then include the lines
- AutoUpdateDisable=0
SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0
(I am not sure Silent Update is applicable to Linux & Flash 11.2)

Right clicking on Flash player in BBC iPlayer gave me 6 options: two of which were Settings and Global Settings. Settings just gave the option of hardware accelerator which was selected. Global settings gave a range (see images). Presumeably equivalent to your Flash UI. No option however to disable AutoUpdate. Can't help feeling its a Firefox issue where I need to diable Firefox wanting to update the Flash player.
On Linux, Flash is usually installed via the software management of the Linux distribution.
Based on your comment I did the following: i) Updated flash via System>Administration>Software Update. 11.2.202.238-release (i386) installed. ii) Tried iplayer, got ss1. iii) "Download the flash player now" as recommended. As expected, I got the message already installed. iv) Returned to Add/Remove software (see ss2) and reselected Macromedia flash. iplayer now works again. v) I confidently expect Adobe to automatically replace Macromedia over the next few days. Don't know how to stop it.
