In Firefox 4.0 the popup blocker is really bad. I'm sorry I updated.

I recently downloaded the new Firefox 4 for Mac. The popup blocker is on, but as opposed to the older version, I'm getting LOTS of popups. Firefox 4 in my opinion is not as good as the older version and certainly needs a fix for the popup blocker.

My problem is a bit different - I disabled the popup blocker (but in case, i added the site to the exceptions list), and when I try to chat in a site I still get a popup warning and won't allow the window to load.

I had this on the lower version 3.6 so I thought upgrading would do the trick - it didn't. If Firefox isn't able to get its popup blocker to work, then get rid of the farking feature.

Just in case, I deleted all extensions to see if one of those might be the culprit, but I ended up with the same result.

- edit - This is bizarre - on another post I read about the site popuptest.com - I made sure I disabled the auto popup blocker in FF4, restarted the browser, went to the site - all the popups should automatically work. Instead, none of them worked. So there's a pretense by FF that users are able to control the popup feature. Or the feature is inordinately crappy.

I go for inordinately crappy. I hope the Mozilla people are reading these posts. Firefox for me has been a definite downgrade instead of an upgrade. It was supposed to be faster. It's not. The layout is visually confusing. The popup blocker doesn't work. Arrrggghhh! I might go back to Safari.

On Windows the pop-up blocker is as effective in 4.0 as it was in all previous version of Firefox - nothing was changed.

See if anything here helps you:

Sorry Edmeister -- it's not. If nothing was changed, something else that WAS changed has now begun allowing multiple popups through in Windows. For instance, for me, every visit to my hometown Denver Post www.denverpost.com now generates a Netflix popup ad -- as do multiple other sites. Apparently it's a significant enough problem that 36 of us have ended up on this forum.

For Netflix ads specifically, see this:

I have the opposite problem. I want to open a popup but it doesn't open any way at all. I've tried to: - Add the site to the exceptions; - Open the popup through the bar and the icon of the popup blocker; - Deactivate the popup blocker. Nothing works. =/

I use firefox 4 on windows xp.

I've just figured it out! It was something in firebug. Everything works fine with Firebug disabled.

Yes, something is different. Whenever I go to a news site, such as cbs5.com, I get popup ads. Here's the problem:

1) I get the popup ads, no problem.
2) Every time I select a content section, I get the Firefox 'pop blocker'.

So...the content I want is blocked, but the ads popup no problem. At this point, Firefox 4 is unusable

At first thought I had a virus--- 'til I read this post. What happened?

It's really frustrating. I will be using IE9 until this problem is fixed.

so here is my problem that seems unsolvable for me. Every time I open a link, website, tab, or windows. There is a number "2" and an "okay" inside the little rectangular window in the middle of the screen, and it seems that you can't do anything unless I click the "okay" button that is inside the little window. I wonder what was that for, I even thought it was a virus, 'cause it didn't made any sense every time I click "okay". Then I ended up here looking for answer, I actually using a google chrome right now, 'cause I literally uninstalled my Firefox because of the thought of virus infection.
