Today I tried to click a "mailto:" link and Firefox informed me that I had no application associated with the extension. I searched and followed the instructions on how to reassociate Yahoo mail with the mailto: extension, but when I look in the Applications menu "mailto:" isn't there.

Try to reset the mailto prefs on the about:config page. In the Filter bar at the top type mailto

You can also try "Reset Download Actions": http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions

The first part (about:config) didn't help as every entry I pulled up was not able to be reset.

However, resetting the download actions seems to have done the trick.
