My Thunderbird standard display has the message displayed below the list of incoming messages. This message pane take up "Several" lines of display and also duplicates the information in the above message window. Its a waste of space and the actual message has to be reduced in viewable size cause the header block uses it all up.

The simplest way is to install Compact Headers. The picture shows the header in single-line mode. Other customizations are possible with Message Header Toolbar Customize or even more (advanced) with userChrome.css.
