Dragging and Dropping an image from a website to desktop for a “.jpg” file extension in Firefox 78.15.0esr (64-bit) (right click + drag to desktop) only works some of the time on a Mac Book Air. Not all images are jpg's, and i don't know about why it would save as weblog, but what i can offer is an alternative:

Ctrl+i

Open the multimedia tab

then search for the image you want and save it.

Firefox 65 and newer support WebP images and websites may send an image in WebP format instead of sending a JPG image even if the link has .jpg.
