Macos 10.9.5 Mavericks with the above mail program installed. Tbird works fine receiving email from my imap server, and other functions seem ok too. Except any attempt to send a new or forwarded email to my smtp server (same ID and password as IMAP) immediately freezes with the circular colored ball. Other apps running continue to do so, and I need to FORCE QUIT Tbird. I'm able to get a dump from the forced quit, but don't recognize anything in it (could be me) that's of use to solve the problem.

Looking at Privacy&Security/Saved Logins just the IMAP server info is listed and the port/password is correct, but there's no separate SMTP entry since it should use the same logic and password as IMAP.

Could it be a bug in this particular version of Tbird? Or where else can I look?

The older Firefox I downloaded seems to be working fine.
