Don't understand the different kinds of folders

"Local Folders" has nothing to do with genuine emails received. The key to creating genuine folders is to right click on the *account(s)* for which you need the folder(s), naming it/them as is appropriate for the kinds of separations you want when you're done with the contents of your inbox for that/those accounts and want to store them for future reference.

Thank you for trying to help, but statements like "Local Folders has nothing to do with genuine emails received" is a statement that means nothing to me. The only "non-genuine" emails I can think of would be spam emails. It appears from what you said, however, that non-local folders are folders which have been associated with various email addresses. However, I don't have or need such associations. For example, I might receive emails from family and friends at my business email addresses, or receive emails from customers at my main personal address. I tend to mix things up.

In a round-about way, you have explained it to me. However, do non-local folders have some useful functionality that local folders don't have?

Terminology matters. Thunderbird Local Folders is a special account and is not a general term to be used to describe folders that you may see on your local computer listed under your actual email account

Local Folders is the name of a special account created by Thunderbird and it resides on your local computer hard drive. Using the term local folders like you want to do is meaningless. Are you referring to the Local Folders account or to some random folder on your computer? IMAP folders are folders created for your email account with your email provider. They exist on your providers server and you view them remotely with email client software on your computer or phone. POP email creates folders on your local computer to keep messages in. The only folder on the providers server that POP email client software communicates with is the Inbox.

The term "local folders" is used in several places in Thunderbird. The term is at the top of the folders pane on the left, and I right-clicked it repeatedly to create my folders. I'm not the one who decided to use the term.

So you are saying that the folders associated with emails are the folders on the server? I didn't know that. I don't use IMAP settings.

I used Eudora for twenty years. Eudora didn't distinguish between folders on one's computer and folders on the server (although I knew they existed) -- at least, it didn't use the term "local folders".

You are the one that wants to type the words local folders. The special account in Thunderbird is displayed like this. Local Folders Note the capital letters.

There are two email standards. POP and IMAP. I suggest you do as suggested and Google them. They are standards and not something Thunderbird dreamed up.

Please post a screenshot where Thunderbird displays the words local folder where the L in local and the F in folders are not capitalized. Yes it does have a special account named Local Folders. I have covered than more than once already. I even post a link to an article that describes Thunderbird Local Folders so I am very much aware of how Thunderbird uses the words Local Folders. Capital L, Capital F.

You seem to be unable to grasp the point. We get asked about local folders all the time and it is important to know what exactly the person is asking about. Some people think any folder displayed in the folder pane is a local folder. There is a big difference between ordinary folders displayed there and the actual Local Folders account.

This forum is about Thunderbird so what you are used to in Eudora is irrelevant.

You were helpful at first, but now you are being argument. You referred me to an article which explains the whole folder thing, and that's what I wanted. The rest of what you've said has not been helpful.
