The column resizing icon does not work, i cannot make a wide column thinner in Portrait view. Can anyone help ,

I have downloaded Thunderbird 45.4. I want to use Portrait View. The last column before the column that displays my actual email is very wide. The resing icon does not work for that column, but it does for all the other columns. I only want columns for Date, From, Subject and Junk and I want the email disPlay column as wide as possible. Is their a way to resize that last column before the display column please?
