I had Thunderbird on my Windows 10 computer. I bought a new Windows 11 computer and downloaded Thunderbird. When I try to set up my email account, I provide my full name (not my Thunderbird user name) and email address. The next screen has the message "Configuration found in Mozilla ISPDB ". I clicked on IMAP and hit continue. The next screen I type in my password for my Spectrum mail account. I have confirmed that the password works went I log onto the Spectrum website. The next screen has the Authentication error "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.". I've also tried using my Thunderbird user name and Password instead of my full name and Spectrum password with the same results. I know my Thunderbird user name is correct but I can't be 100% sure that my Thunderbird password is correct.

I'm not sure if this matters but my email has the has the extension ----@socal.rr.com. This was assigned to me by my original email provider, which was Time Warner Cable. Spectrum bought Time Warner Cable a few years ago and I think Spectrum uses a different extension.

I am in the midst of the long process of moving most (not all!) of my gmail from the gmail server to TBird, using filters as discussed in this thread.

I've started by first using filters on less important emails (ie so that no true disaster occurs if something goes horribly wrong). As I do so, I have questions!

For example, let's say I use a filter to: copy all the emails from @someone.org to a local folder then delete those emails (from the server)

What happens if one of those emails happens to be within a thread, including emails from people who don't match the filter (ie are not @someone.org). Have I broken the thread forever, ie, has something gone horribly wrong? If so, how do I prevent this behavior/have the entire thread move along with the targeted value? If not, I don't see how I can move email without breaking threads, which is a bit of a problem.

(Also - whoops, I see I should update, but the question remains.)

Thunderbird stopped retrieving mail from one of my accounts, does not give an error message, just says no new emails, Outlook and other devices are continuing to retrieve from this account with no issue. So the issue is with Thunderbird. Is there a text or phone number I can use with tech support to clear this issue? I checked with AI Bots to resolve this and it seems quite involved.

What is the best way in TB of organising the storage of email messages on my local storage device:

• Many folders/subfolders, each containing a limited number of messages?
• Few / One Archive folder containing all messages, each message tagged with one or more tags for easy search/retrieval?

I would prefer the latter, but I am unsure if there are any limitations to how many messages that can be stored in one folder i TB.

• Are there any practical limitations regarding the no. of messages in one folder?

Each time I open TBird, I get a message at the bottom left of the screen telling me that TBird has deleted X number of messages. I do not want TBird to ever delete any messages. How do I turn this automatic delete function off?

clearly as a 68 year old man who knows nothing about modern technology things like this are not what you need I am also classed as Severely disabled with various illnesses from Diabetes and sleep apnea to Ulcerative Colitis and mental health problems.I also have CTS in both hands so trying to type this out on my phone is not ideal I am not having a go at anyone but I would have thought that with the amount of intelligent people connected to technology organisations that one of them would have thought about this type of problem and came up with a simple solution it's not rocket science if the main problem I'm having is not being able to access my email and have no other accessible other ways to confirm things to you surely a freely available freephone number from the country you live in to yourselves or if you yourselves contacted the person Directly preferably on their home phone but if not their recognised mobile number and asked them some basic security questions by firstly asking them for two step verification to their mobile (if they have one) likewise I am aware not everyone had either a home phone or a mobile (or both) because of various problems I have encountered with verification methods that are not available to me or might be but I dont know how they work then surely I cannot be the only one? under the 1998 Human Rights Acts and Protocols Article 1 Protocol 1 people like myself are meant to have protective status especially here in Britain where the 2010 Equalities Act is meant to give us added protection and certain rights all I am asking for is to speak to someone who wont talk to me using Computer Jargon and at least has some Empathy and Common Sense to help me get this Sorted I use Firefox and Mozilla because I Like what you are trying to do but if you are going to cause people like myself the exact same problems I and others like me may as well just not bother with technology because the Stress it causes me in particular is simply not worth it. In the process of changing from Windows to Linux, I have entered the details of my email account and it is fine when I press re-test, but when I press done it is not fine anymore. The email is “freeuk.com” which is still active but Freeuk itself isn’t, but the service was taken over by Claranet with a “clara.net” setting, so I imagine that may be relevant. Any help (not too technical please) would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recently got a notification that a Thunderbird update was available, so the update was downloaded and installed.

Next I went to my inbox to tidy it up, by deleting some items and archiving some that I wanted to keep. On looking at the 2026 archive none of the items where found.

Why has this happened and is there any FIX ?

Grouping emails is awesome. Also have the preview show a bunch of compressed email info when a group is selected. However if the group contains only one email nothing is previewn. Is this a bug or a feature?

I wanted a new email address so since I've been using firefox for decades. I wanted to try thunderbird. (i tried mailfence it didn't work at all) So i download thunderbird desktop. It doesn't tell me what it is. Although I've used computers for 50 years, I need explanations for new stuff. Your habit of assuming all is obvious and no explanations needed is so annoying and wastes so much time. Thunderbird says includes powerful email. Then it says email not available . go on waitlist. I put in my name. Then it talks about some pro ( thunder email?) that must be paid. None of this makes sense to me Can I or can I not get a new email? Please answer this note so my questions can be answered.

I need to keep all my linked yahoo account emails because they are limiting space and will soon delete them. so i tried to make local folders to drag and drop my folders to. but it will not create them. nothing happens. help ?

Environment:

• Thunderbird 153.0.2 (aarch64)
• MacBook Air, M4, Tahoe 26.5.1

When I try to create or rename an Inbox subfolder in Thunderbird it all seems’’ to work (no error message), but after pressing “Rename” or Create” nothing happens.

Thought I found a workaround: Created a “Temporary” subfolder in “Local Folders” and “moved it" to the Inbox. And it showed up there. (But it was still in the “Local Folders”!). Tried moving a (Spam) email into the Temporary folder under the Local Folders, that worked. Tried moving a (Spam) email into the Temporary folder under the Inbox—it just disappeared! It was no longer in the Spam folder, but did not end up in (either) Temporary folder.

How can i get new messages in a thread to move the thread to the top? (I have descending order selected) I miss new incoming replies when they sorted weeks or months ago by the original email date.

I have used Thunderbird with the same email account for years, creating subfolders and moving emails to the subfolders with no issues.

With Thunderbird 153.0.1, after creating a new subfolder in the account, when attempting to move emails to the new folder, I receive the following error:

"Thunderbird: The current command did not succeed. The email server responded: APPEND invalid flag list"

I am not able to receive or send emails using my wifi, but can using data (same provider). I have queried this with my email host and wifi provider and both have said there is no issue on their end that would block these actions. The email host suggested I change port 465 to 587 for outgoing to see if that made a difference. It did not.

This issue is occurring on the web platform as well as the android app.

The error message in account setting is: an error occurred connecting to gsyd1001.siteground.net:993."

Since upgrading to Thunderbird Meadow 153.0 and 153.0.1 when I click on show remote content it opens new tabs in Firefox 153.0. and 153.0.1. The remote content does not appear in the email. Depending on the amount of remote content results in the number of new opened tabs. I have restarted both Firefox and Thunderbird without any differences in the outcome. I did not change any of the settings upgrading to version 153.0 and as far as I can remember I have not changed any settings in 20 years.
