in sync, how do i sign in or out if connect/disconnect is faded and unclickable?

I just downloaded firefox sync for the first time on any computer, created an account and finished. When I went to sign out, or upon reopening firefox, sign back in, I can't. If I right-click on the sync icon in bottom right, disconnect/or connect is faded and I can't click on it. Under preferences the same thing happens. How can I keep this private if I can't sign out/in?

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

I have the plug-in installed and when I go to preferences the manage account tab is greyed out as is the connect button. When trying to sign in on my phone is says "unspecified failure"
