Sporadically I receive a message on my screen while using my Firefox browser that my computer has been hacked. Is this real? What should I do?

Is that a push notification? Revoke the site that was allowed to send you these in the past from the permissions: Web Push notifications in Firefox
If that's more like a window prompt / alert as shown e.g. in github.com/mozilla-mobile/firefox-ios/issues/34162#issuecomment-4635676073 that's basically just a harmless attempt to scam you; the advice here is to just not visit such dubious sites;)
