It is difficult to guess what you mean by "blank panels". Can you show a screen shot of your blank panels in Thunderbird? From which Thunderbird version did you update to which new version?

I am having the same issue occasionally over the last month. When Thunderbird opens I see the tab and background but no text or folders. The bottom of the window does have a message like normal as it is updating and downloading messages but nothing can be seen, just a blank window. Closing and reopening the app has resolved this so far but I am nervous it won't work one of these times.
