I have an outlook account that will not install. I get the challenge, to send me an authentication number at another email address, and that says okay, you can close this window and continue, but then at 'continue' in Thunderbird I get an authentication error.

-I have added the email on another computer in Thunderbird and send/receive email, no error -I have added the email in the New Outlook email app and send/receive email, no error -I have added a different outlook account in Thunderbird on this computer, no error -I can log into the Microsoft live email app and send/receive email, no error -I have uninstalled Thunderbird as admin, removed the Thunderbird folders in %appdata% and %localappdata% for both the admin and user accounts, cleared the cache and cookies on the computer and in Thunderbird (including the token), then reinstalled Thunderbird under the admin account, logged into Thunderbird as the user and added the problem Outlook account; same issue. Press Continue and authentication error, even though the challenge screen says everything is connected and okay. Then I install the other Outlook account without any issues.

I am convinced that somewhere on this machine there is something that knows and hates this one email account. It is possibly because the profile file had a problem and I deleted the xulstore.json file per instructions to resolve the problem, but the file is there and the profile is working again for the other Outlook accounts, just not this one particular account.

Any Obi-wan or other wise counsel out there?

I guess I have made a huge mistake somewhere in the process, because my whole archive has disappeared. I very much hope it still exists somewhere and that I will be able to restore it with your help. I have thunderbird for many years and now giving me trouble with my email that I get from comcast not letting email to come up says not responding and when it comes up and check the mail and then lower it to taskbar and their is a second copy which I lower it also also please help this is all has started recently and need help badly. Hi, hoping someone could help as I am struggling to get my information back. I am using Ubuntu Cinnamon.

Thunderbird crashed last night, wouldn't work, tried safe mode. Nothing fixed it. It hung when opening up and after 30 seconds said force quit. So I was forced to reinstall. I did a manual backup but not using the inbuilt tool as I couldn't get into Thunderbird. I just copied the data from username/.thunderbird

After spending a long time uninstalling. Because it reached 78% and then crashed on uninstall. Eventually after reading various pages on the internet I managed to reinstall from the Ubuntu software manager using the latest snap version. (Which I am not sure was what was actually installed previously).

However having used thunderbird for nearly 20 years or so. I have a username/.thunderbird folder. And when I moved to this platform, I have a snap/thunderbird/common/.thunderbird folder.

I installed this new distro 2 years ago, and remember having issues getting my data into the system under Snap. But eventually got it to work somehow back then.

However since reinstalling I cannot see the last 2 years of emails, archives or data. It has launched into a 2 year old profile. I appear to have lost most of the emails from the archive folders (but kept the folders) removed all of the personal folders but then dumped all those emails into my inbox. Giving me 6500 emails that were in various personal folders. (I don't get 6500 emails in a year so don't know what has happened.) It has even changed all of the new dates to the US format, so nothing makes any sense.

I now have 2 Thunderbird profiles, over 12GB in size. And have apparently lost 2 years of my life. But reading support pages, suggests I should be okay because thunderbird doesn't delete data when you reinstall?

I have looked through various other threads which talk about pointing it at the profiles and mail boxes, however nothing works.

Any help much needed.

I've had AOL for an Email provider for several years now. I rarely went to the website to check my Email cause Thunderbird was linked to it. But today, AOL seems to be turning off my Thunderbird (I can't send or receive Email at the moment). It's like malware with the continuous popups making me log in to AOL to use Thunderbird but then ending up on some Yahoo Oops screen. I've been using Thunderbird since before I transitioned to AOL after moving.

It's been working fine up until today. When I do anything on Thunderbird, the annoying popup screens appear wanting me to log in. Any ideas? Have I been hacked?

For the past several months the saved passwords, for my Comcast account, have had to be reset. When viewed the password vault still shows the old but correct password. It happens after a restart required for a Windows Update. I put in a dummy password, reboot, put the original password, reboot and I'm back and working as it was in the past.

Isn't password manager suppose to save the password until changed or deleted? It had in the past!

Hi, In installed thunderbird on my mobile device and manage different email-accounts. Whenever I open an incoming email for account "A", I am in "answer"mode. For account "B" everything is normal. I don't see any different setting for those 2 accounts. Does anyone has also this effect and any idea how to solve this?

Hi I am an older person and have lost my profiles on thunderbird email - one is [redacted]@xtra.co.nz and the other is [redacted]@xtra.co.nz. We are in NZ and accidently deleted the Thunderbird profile and not the corrupted new profile I was setting up. Thank you. Gloria Sandbrook. Hello. i have latest beta 156.b3 64bit, after updating to beta 3 my tb offer retry passwords to many google acccounts and opening FireFox for again login in to each account. I have turned off checking mails on the start up for them and turn off checking mails, but again and again opening firefox for signing in. i closing firefox but TB not continue checking mail from another mailboxes, they stopped and seems like waiting for signing. i try to manually click for each mailbox "get message", but this no work, could you help me turn off login through firefox?

I've been using Thunderbird for a few months now and it has mostly worked well. Then this afternoon I was reading my mail in the Unified Inbox and I noticed something very odd. I had a number of emails showing in the header list with the same "From" and various subject lines. On the face of it, that wouldn't describe any weird behavior except that I noticed the subject lines absolutely didn't match the "From" information.

As I would go to read these emails, the email itself would be correct in the preview pane -- including showing the correct sender name and email -- but the "From" information in the header list pane would still be wrong.

I'm sorry that I can't post a screenshot to make this more clear because there is just too much personal information on screen. But these emails are from several different senders, received by several different email accounts. Everything is correct except that the "From" shown in the header pane is wrong. This is very obvious to me because I normally run entirely in the Unified Inbox with the emails sorted by the "From" information

One example is an email that is actually from "U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs <do-not-reply@notifications.va.gov>" which Thunderbird displays correctly in the preview pane (where I usually read my emails) and if I open the email itself, but the header pane says this email is From "Prepper-co <joshua@prepper-co.com>"

Another example is an email that is actually from "USPS Customer Support <uspscustomersupport@usps.gov>" but the header pane says it is from "Rainier Arms <sales@rainierarms.com" < p></sales@rainierarms.com">

These two examples were received in different email accounts that aren't even on the same server. I have other emails from these same senders that are shown correctly

I found this problem while using 150.0 (64-bit), which said 150.0.1 was available, so I restarted Thunderbird and it updated to 150.0.1 (64-bit) but the problem is the same.

Thunderbird has been receiving emails on my PC from Bell Sympatico for years, then suddenly stopped in July 2026 without my changing any settings, and I have to go to the Bell server instead.

I have no idea what happened to my Thunderbird. I think it might have been an update, because all of my folders are not where they were, everything in the folders are sorted by groups like today, or older. I noticed a bunch of my emails are now in folders marked as a Userfolder#. The emails it contains are those that normally should be in a properly named folder, only those named folders are grayed out. Another issue is that when i try to open an email, it opens it as if I want to reply to it. If I just want to read the email, I have to right click on the email and select open to read it. I have 2 spam folders, no idea why, nothing saves to my draft folder I found out today, I just dont know what happened! I dont think I did anything but I dont know now, as Im beginning to doubt myself. It's been this way for a few days.

whilst all incoming emails are visible, many do not display their message header in the Inbox List. such as the one captured with a screen shot. Several have displayed in this manner over the last few days as can be seen.

It appears that when I invert the sorting order of messages by Date, it does not affect the order of messages in a threaded conversation.

Is this deliberate or a known issue?

Any solution to sort everything with the newest messages at the top, that is: - Messages - And messages within a thread

I run Thunderbird on MacOS for some years without a problem. Now, after a hard reboot, Thunderbird won't launch anymore. I tried reinstalling to no avail. Is there anything I could do here? Or do you need any more info? The crash report is as follows:

Currently using TB 153.0, Win 11 on desktop PC.

In past versions there was a progress bar on right end of the status line, along bottom edge of the screen, that showed progress while TB was compacting folders. That bar hasn't been visible in last few updates.

When prompted today, I allowed TB to start compacting. I'd permanently deleted a really big bunch of old emails in last few days, so probably a lot of space that could be recovered. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting, but without the progress I had no idea if TB was busy or possibly frozen. So I just left it alone. When I came back and tried to manually start compacting, it immediately said "Done, 0K saved". So it had obviously done the compacting.

If it's an option, how do I enable that progress bar? If not currently available, please consider restoring it in future TB updates. I -for one- think it's a very useful feature.

Hi Today, several emails that I have received, which I think were sent from an Outlook account, have, instead of what I would expect to see as the sender's address under correspondents, have Microsoft account team <account-security-noreply@accountprotection.microsoft.com> When I click on the email, I can see the genuine sender's address This has only happened today At least one of the emails that I received came from someone that I know uses Outlook Any ideas? I am writing to express my frustration with the new Account Hub interface in Thunderbird. Specifically, the decision to remove the password field from the initial setup screen is a massive downgrade in user experience.While I understand this was likely designed to accommodate OAuth2 and web-popup logins, it completely breaks down for users setting up accounts with custom domains or standard IMAP/SMTP authentication.Because the password field is hidden upfront, Thunderbird successfully connected to my incoming mail server but completely failed to save or authenticate my outgoing (SMTP) server settings. I spent hours troubleshooting a "cannot find server" error, only to realize the root cause was that the Account Hub never gave me a place to input my password for the outgoing server.Hiding core credentials like passwords doesn't make the app "simpler"—it makes troubleshooting invisible errors a nightmare for users. Please consider bringing back the standard password input field on the very first setup screen, or at least making it optional for manual configurations. My current blocker is I've tried to disable the Account Hub in my settings just to make Thunderbird usable but it is bot changing back to the old add new mail account screen. Please help.
